ok, so, I’m on nvidia shield, paid lifetime plex pass, I do NOT have an antenna, I do NOT have a homerun … I wonder how/if I can RECORD off plex, from its many offerings and/or I have plex from a friend, whatever its called… plex thingy… thanks for useful answers

You cannot record any of the online content / video on demand. You don’t need to record content shared by a friend… it’s already shared with you.

The DVR function is available for live tv and requires a tuner that’ll provide tv content in a compatible format from OTA/antenna or cable. There’s apps that can also simulate a regular tv tuner for other content (e.g. internet tv via xteve)

is there any way I can even TEST this? … regarding the shared plex, I was wanting to record because I was getting buffering… regarding xteve, I have read alittle, so, is the perfectly ok to discuss here?

If you’re using a Plex desktop client and your friend enabled you to download their media you should be able to download the videos for local access. That being said stuttering is not always related to bandwidth so this will not necessarily resolve your issue.

As for testing… you seem to have a Plex Pass so you should be able to test the DVR feature already… this is if you have a tv tuner.

like I said, I have Nvidia Shield, Plex Pass, no tv tuner… other programs I can record my Locast, and my free Sling account… so, CAN I test record, with Plex, with my Shield? thanks

I doubt there’s official support for those services but from what a simple forum search brought up there’s ways to get this done:

I’ve found a feature suggestion to support/integrate slinging but that hasn’t got a significant audience/attention.

thanks, I’ll spend today Reading how to do this, seems a very popular Request… must be a reason it isn’t Simply integrated into Plex Pass… I mean, that IS why we pay for it,

you have to get the m3ua link to each channel and build up a playlist (like a music playlist), You get the link typically by looking through the website code. At that point, you then need to also get the epg, which is the tv guide part.

Even after that it would have to play through a device (or emulated device) like the hdhomerun.

It’s a thing… if you arent into things I would just hold off. If you are, the first thing you need to do is find the stream link (m3ua).

do you have the link to the site that streams the locals?

to be Honst… I"m Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but, I have been known to be able to follow directions… I believe this it entering territory unfamilar to me, again… they Say ,its good for the mind to keep expanding… for now, I am exploring, there is SO Much tv stuff, I can’t believe it… I am enjoying it… no, I prolly DON"T have a 'link to site that streams locals" thanks for the reply, I"ll keep Reading…

I looked through what tom80h replied with (first link only) and it looks like that is kind of what you need…

But in general you need to emulate a piece of hardware (hdhomerun) through your computer. Plex then pics up the emulated hardware like it was a hdhomerun box and then streams onto plex.

thanks, I’m reading…
