Oh plex
I have all your social discover items disabled on my profile even after you auto enabled the latest one but I’m seeing a new share link available on my android mobile and tv plex clients which when click asked to share with friends. Its also there at app.plex.tv under the … / share option.
PLEASE tell me this is a bug which will be addressed.
Unless I am misunderstanding something, pretty sure that ‘share with friends’ is something separate from discover/social stuff and has been around longer than discover stuff.
Does the button/icon/option being there force you to share anything? Is it sharing items without your consent or knowledge? Or is it just another option that you can choose to use (or not)?
I do hate having to justify myself when plex do something which is wrong, however here we go… I have a son who has severe special needs who loves scrolling though plex and all the artwork, it brings him profound pleasure and is a soothing technique he has used for years.
This morning he was stuck in this new workflow as it was something he was not expecting and as all the social / discover functionality is something we have disabled I should not see it which is why I asked if its a bug and would be addressed.
I’m ok with the “share” link sitting in a triple dot menu. I am NOT in favor of pushing a dedicated “share” button in any UI. Already on some clients, “Mark as Watched/Unwatched” is starting to get pushed back into the triple dot menu while other less-used options are getting dedicated buttons.
Go to your server via web and under the Settings (the wrench) and then below Account go to “Online Media Sources” and there’s a new option at the very bottom.
I had the “share with friends” button visible on my movies in WebUI. I disabled the bottom option “Display activity from my friends on detail pages” and the share button disappeared from the WebUI.
“Share” in the sub-menu has been there for quite some time I believe - at least I remember noticing it in the past in the WebUI but not touching it and maybe it works different now.
If it’s turned off from WebUI I would believe it’d turn off from client - which client? Client might need to be refreshed after the change maybe? Roku doesn’t reflect changes until local caching is reset\cleared for example - I exit Plex and re-load it when I make changes to check it sometimes.
Not doubting you, but hoping something will work because I don’t like having those social features active and cluttering the interface (just one more thing to click past).
I don’t have a “share” option in Roku like I do in the WebUI.
Here’s how my Roku interface changes with that setting -
