Shared Library only listing a single file (even though there are more)

Hi everyone!

Long time happy Plex user, first time asking for help.

Here’s my issue. I wanted to share some personal videos with a close friend, so I created an empty folder on the server and created a new “Other Videos” library in Plex, and selected “Plex Video Files” scanner option and “Personal Media” agent.

I shared the library with my friend using his email (he didn’t hae a Plex account yet), so he proceeded to create one, and he could reach the library just fine.

I added a first video file to the folder (exposed through the shared library) and both him and me we could see it. When I added more files, the files did not display in the library (locally to me or remotely to him) no matter how much I tried playing with its settings. I tried changing the scanner option, the agent option, I added default poster and other images, I rescanned the library several times, I refreshed metadata, all to no avail.

I then tried deleting all files, and then dropping a new file in the folder. The new file showed up perfectly in the shared Plex library. I added one more file, and it is not shown at all.

I restarted Plex server, I rebooted the machine, I tried pretty much everything I could think of, but without success.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or some setting I may have missed ?

I probably solved it already, by performing “The Plex Dance” (The Plex Dance ™)

I followed its steps, and when I moved back the files to the folder, they were detected in the subsequent Library scan.

I’ll see if it holds up when I add more files.

The “Plex Dance” fix only worked that one time. Once I added one more file, it is not showing in the library, regardless of what I do (and I tried all the usual steps as before). I even tried the “Plex Dance” again, but to no avail.

I don’t know what else to do. Any suggestions ?
