Sharing DV-videos over WAN/LAN to SmartTV?

Running Ubuntu 12.04 with Plex as a media streamer.

I have learned to add my converted DV-video as a Personal Video agent. With Plex Media Server running, my Samsung SmartTV with the AllShare App does recognize PMS as a member of the WAN. I select my folder and browse -- I have an empty folder, no files to select.

Any ideas? Do I have a file or folder permission problem?

Okay, I have it running. On the Ubuntu platform I install Plex Media Server. I launch that. The GUI/interface is much like MyAdmin, a web page that displays a server's files and options. I copied over to PMS some of my home videos as a 'Personal Agent' which is very important. The default agent will seek out similar video on the internet and offer those as a choice you can serve.

Then, because I have the Samsung, I discovered Plex in the SmartTV appStore. Installing that includes a walk-through of setting up Preferences. One thing you will have to do is link the Plex client to the Plex Media Server, that is running on your networked computer. In Ubuntu, I fired up Terminal and typed:

user@desktop:~> ifconfig

That brings up a list of all the nodes of a network. I looked for network address locations that had 192.168.x.x. and guessed correctly that was the PMS. The Plex app announced it had successfully linked to the server.

Because of the confusion of Plex Media Server and Plex app having similar naming, along with the fact the Plex app is currently a click install only the Samsung TV hardware makes documentation hard to google. I hope this post helps anyone following after me.

Plex will only get better. Plex rocks!
