Sharing media with a friend

I am having a little problem, as I am trying to share my media with a friend.

my friend has gone off and created a plex account and send me the email account, which I have added to my Sharing option with Family and friends.

my mate then informed me that he got the invite and accepted it then tried to access my media.
on my server I have a Green tick to the sharing of libraries.

any ideals why, or should I say - what have I forgetting.

I having done no port forwarding, and my Plex Server is sitting on a Unraid server behind a VPN.
I have tested to see if it is a VPN issues by turning it off and having my friend retry, result in no connection.

Have you access from an other network or have you no remote access?

I am not sure what you mean by this, but I am guessing that you are asking me if I have tick the option for remote access, then the answer is no. as I understand it that I don’t need this turn on.

if that I do need this enable then my next question will be. how secure will plex be as I would have then enable a path to my plex from the outside. via my firewall

Of course you need to turn it on. How else is your friend supposed to get to the media you are sharing?

Yes, he doesn’t can connect to you Server If you don’t allow it.
