Sharing My Plex Videos

Hi All,

I currently have some videos in my plex library that I share with my sister (I give her my username and password)

This works great, but, the only problem is, if she watches a video, then it is marked watched for me and vise versa

If she creates her own account and I share my library that way, will it solve this issue ?

Yes. If she has her own account, she will have her own unique ‘watched’ history, separate from yours.

This is actually the preferred method of sharing with someone. Giving your ID and password out means you are giving up your admin rights to the other person. (What limited admin rights we get with the app, anyway.) This is really NOT a good idea…

Have her make a plex.tv account and then share your libraries to her. She will have to go back through marking the watched status on those she has already watched, but other than that, she has a unique history to herself. You can have a maximum of 100 users for all servers registered under your ID. And you are also limited to 15 users including yourself in your Plex Home. (Managed users) These Home users count against the 100 total, too.

If you want to see what she’s been watching (and if you add more users you will want to know if someone is watching, trust me.) You need to install a 3rd party app called PlexPy. You can find this in the 3rd party apps forum. This is a pretty robust app, and is pretty stable. There are instructions for installing this on just about any machine Plex Media Server is capable of running on. (Not the router, the Shield TV or a RasPi from what I understand.)

Other than those three, it’s straight forward.
