Sharing Questions

Hi.

I am new to Plex, so please be patient!
I have set up Plex in my home. Server is on a NAS. All running fine.
I wish to share library with my brother who lives elsewhere.
He has an Xbox One S.
I have sent him an invite friend email.

Am I correct in assuming that he only has to set up a Plex account (not a server) to view on the Xbox?
When he accepts the invite (which he will do on the computer), should he set up his account on the Xbox rather than the computer, or does he set up Plex on both? Sorry, I am not clued into the running of Plex yet!!

Thank you.

Yes. He needs a free account at plex.tv. He does not need a Plex server installation.

  1. Set up the account at plex.tv and accept the invitation from the computer.

  2. Install and run the Plex app on the Xbox. When he runs the app he will have to authenticate his account. Once the account is authenticated, he will be able to see your server & stream media.

when you share with someone you are sharing with their account not a particular device. they can use whatever Plex player app they want. They do not need a server or a Plex Pass.

Note that not all our player apps are free. iOS, Android mobile and Windows store app have individual costs.
