Ok cool, yeah they are definitely coming through.
The interesting thing is since the last hotfix those Audio drop outs that I never noticed has totally killed it for me.
They are more than noticeable now. No issues for 15 minutes of playback then constant every minute or so. I’m done with this c**p.
I have no idea if it was you or another Ninja/Employee who mentioned that the Shield has been on a cycle of hotfixes for whatever the last hotfix broke, but whoever it was had it nailed.
Personally life is too short.
Garbage UX and constantly seeing one issue disappearing and being replaced by yet another.
I will stick with the trouble free ATV4K and Flac 7.1 or Neural:X its still a vast improvement on Atmos and constant audio dropouts.
Noticed the below text in the Hotfix thread at Nvidia. Basically, once you sign up, you’re in until the next official release. There is no way to back out short of rooting your Shield.
A few things to note:
There is no way to roll back from the HotFix or anyway for that matter without following the rooting/developer images process.
There is no way to leave the HotFix process once you join it.
HotFix images are not fully certified and will not be ever. The next official release will have all certifications. The only negative side affect we’ve noticed from this so far is that HD Homerun DRM channels will not work with the HotFix image so if that feature is important to you, please avoid the HotFix image.
Plex Media Server has a bug now if you have moved your metadata to external storage during an OTA the server may not work after the OTA. This is not a bug in the OTA, it is a bug in Plex Media server and Plex is working to resolve it. If you can’t afford for this to happen, please do not sign up for the HotFix.
Same here OG Nvidia Shield with 500GB internal hdd. Sony STR-DN1080 Receiver streaming 4K from a netgear RN212 NAS over ethernet 275Mbps cable internet feed. HEY PLEX DEVS KODI RUNS ALL MY 4K FILES JUST FINE!!! FIX THIS ASAP PLEASE
Exactly my point. A Plex issue. I just read through this thread again and don’t think that I’m off topic from everyone else? I’ve described the exact same issues.
Plenty of other people have said it’s not just Plex. I’ll stop replying after this because I’m not home to test anything and I could be wrong but this link I posted before has a number of complaints claiming Kodi was affected also.
interesting. I have played several of the same 4k mkv files that had dropouts on plex flawless in kodi. I dunno but whereever the problem resides hopefully it gets fixed soon just super annoying.
Is this being looked at? I’ve had HD audio dropouts ever since I upgraded to 8.0, so frustrating.
I tried uninstalling the Plex updates on the Shield and HD audio worked fine but Plex just auto updates every time! So it’s definitely a Plex issue, not sure if it’s just 4K files affected.
I spent some time at home today and it does actually appear to affect Plex only. Kodi working fine for me with the exact same file (Dolby True HD based Atmos track).
Does this align with what others are seeing? If so i’ll send that back to nVidia in the ticket i have open.
Right now i believe the following to be true:
Shield Experience 7 works fine in all cases.
Shield Experience 8 is broken in Plex but works fine in Kodi.
