Shield player Crashing

@BigWheel - How the heck do I create a new posting? I don’t see it up in the menu, in community forums or elsewhere. It’s as if my Plex Pass subscription has lost the ability.

I’m trying to find out why Plex on my shield seems to crap out but there is no crash report for it:

  • Playing (this morning was Penn & Teller that I’d recorded from the TV with my shield.
  • I was playing, probably for a good 15 minutes when I hit the back (10 seconds) button.
  • wait …
  • wait …
  • user is take out of Plex and returned to the Android TV home screen.

you go into a category that you want to post in and click the “new topic” button. I moved this to a new topic though

Can we get the all the logs after is happens again. that log bit seems normal

Thank you @BigWheel. It has been long enough since I actually started a new draft, my topic a week ago-ish was created from a draft thread.

I downloaded 3 sets of logs Sunday morning with the name of the .zip file being what I perceived happening. I’m not sure if Plex actually crashed but while watching (on Plex) a show that I had recorded on the shield it dumped me back to the Android TV home screen.

PennTellerFreezeOnBack.zip (6.2 MB) PennTellerFreezeOnBackVideoErroredOut.zip (6.3 MB) CrashWatchingPennTeller.zip (6.0 MB)

Sorry I misread and thought you meant the server was crashing, possible to get logs from the player app. after it crashes to Android Tv desktop. Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support

@BigWheel - I have a single piece of software installed on my shield, as far as I know. If there is some way that I can get separate logs for the player vs the server?

instructions on how to get from the player are here

Thank you @BigWheel. You’ve unleashed a ‘beast’ ;-).

Now that I have access to player logs on the Shield and I was reminded how to open forum topics I can submit a bunch of issues that we have been having with our shield that is hardwired.

I will keep a log going and when it ‘crashes’ I will be sure to post to this topic. But for now I opened
a new topic on an old topic, since the old tops have been closed for no replies -
(Back 10 seconds jumps ahead and freezes) Back 10 seconds = Jump ahead many minues on Nvidia Shield

@BigWheel , I’m thinking that this is probably a player issue, right? As such we could close this forum posting.

I just changed the title category for this one. Did you make another post about the player crashing to desktop? Or was that other about the 10sec jump the cause of crash?

I did not create a new ‘player’ related issue no. I was suggesting that we close this posting because it started out with the wrong log info and it can therefore confuse anybody looking at it.

If I can grab the logs when the player appears to crash I can open a new issue but in the meantime I also created the ‘Back 10 seconds = Jump ahead…’ posting.
