@FilGov

Stupid question time:

Help me understand the history here and how you’re trying to access it.

  1. I see the server owned by your username (FILGOV)
    – on the shield TV.
    – LAN IP 192.168.1.1

  2. Is the problem confined to just the Shield Player app or is it this way for all apps? (Plex/web included)

Well, AFAIK, only the (Plex) SHIELD player app (usually) has a setting to move the Plex data storage location on the NVIDIA SHIELD to a removable drive, so I would have to say it’s confined to the (Plex) SHIELD player app. Then again, this is a Plex Media Server setting that just happens to be in the (Plex) SHIELD player app, so I would say this is unrelated to any player app. Regardless, the problem concerns the (missing) setting on my Plex client app on my NVIDIA SHIELD to move the Plex data storage location on the NVIDIA SHIELD to a removable drive and I didn’t try this anywhere else. If any other app has this setting, please let me know and I’ll gladly try.

This  is what i’m interested in right now.

Specifically –

  1. Can you open a browser
  2. Open http://192.168.1.1:32400/web
  3. Sign into your account if requested
    – confirm you’re in your FilGov account after opening
  4. Do you or do you not have server settings accessible to you?
(Server should be listed in the left panel – possibly duplicated )

I ask this because it might be confined to the player app…
If so, we can reload it easily.

Yes, I have server settings accessible to me when I open the settings there. My “SHIELD Android TV” server is listed in the left panel - not duplicated.

At this point, knowing the server app and the player app are two different pieces of software on the shield.

I think the player app got confused along the way. (it does happen)

I need to lookup how to reset the shield player app back to fresh so you can point it to the right server again with the right credentials.

I usually just uninstall, reinstall , and relink it (I don’t run PMS on the shield)

When you go into the Shield’s apps, confirm for me please you see both the Plex (player) app and the Server app ?

Confirmed.

Two choices:

  1. Uninstall the shield player app ONLY
  2. When you reinstall it, it will come in as fresh.
  3. You will re-link it to your plex account.
  4. Your server will be there.

-OR-

  1. Go into the shield player app
  2. Settings
  3. Sign out of your account
  4. Force terminate the app (shield control)
  5. Start the player app
  6. Link it to your account again
  7. Go into settings and confirm it’s retained

If this doesn’t resolve the problem then I will need the player app’s debug logs.

I uninstalled the SHIELD player app only, reinstalled it, and re-linked it to my Plex account. The issue persists. There’s no option on the SHIELD player app to move the Plex data storage location on the NVIDIA SHIELD to a removable drive. The setting is still missing. How can I get the player app’s debug logs? Please advise. Thank you.

You don’t have this option?

The instructions are here:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/moving-server-data-storage-location-on-nvidia-shield/

The player app debug logs are Remote Logs.
You go to Settings (bottom left) and then scroll down to advanced settings.
That’s where you enable the logs.

Next you’ll open the browser to that URL.
The shield will ask you to confirm permission to access the logs.

Copy the text you get in the browser.
Attach the txt file here

No, I don’t. I have no “PLEX MEDIA SERVER” row.

log.txt (19.7 KB)

Thank you for the logs.

I found it.

It does not see the external drive.

When you go into the shield’s settings (upper right corner)
then Device Preferences → Storage

is the drive listed and mounted ?

Yes, all the external drives are listed and mounted.

just be certain, you’ve done full power-off cycle of the shield?

Yes, I have.

I’m going to need time to load the server on my shield and replicate (if I can) your problem.

Given the player app can’t talk to external storage tells me there’s a problem with that external drive (maybe stop everything and check the filesystem in your computer ??),

I’ll try to figure out what to do next.

If you want to shutdown and check the drive, please do so to save time.

They’re 7 external drives from different types and manufacturers. They all work fine on my computer. I even formatted 2.

I think the HDD is setup but I’m not convinced. It moved it far too quickly.

I’ll have answers for you tomorrow (it’s late in New York time zone)

OK, no problem, it’s late here in Lisbon too. I didn’t understand your comment, though. FYI they’re 6 HDDs and 1 solid state flash drive.
