PMS Storage location, can't select NAS or USB drive

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: 8.110.22186 (a1b8a7fb)

I’ve got an Nvidia Shield TV Pro and I’ve setup Plex on it, which works perfectly. Media is stored on my mounted NAS drive and there is also a USB stick connected which the Shield itself is happily using.

My issue is that I can’t seem to change the PMS storage location for the media library metadata. Whilst the server is able to read files from the NAS and play from them in the libraries, it doesn’t seem to see any external drives in the settings menu. Does anybody know why this may be? All the guides I’ve found simply show external storage but when I select storage location I only have the options for internal storage showing.

You cannot move the Plex Server data folder to a network drive. It is not supported.

USB drives can be configured as Internal or Removeable storage.

It looks like you configured the USB stick as internal storage. If so, the “Internal (user accessible storage location)” is the USB stick.

Edit: I attached a NTFS formatted USB stick to my Shield Pro 2015.

  • It appears as removeable storage in the Shield storage settings.
  • It is accessible over the network via SMB (I have file sharing enabled)
  • It appears in Plex settings as a data storage option for PMS data, in addition to the two internal locations.
