could you post server logs and may be also enable network logging with debug level logging in the roku app

please indicate times of the failures

I lost hope for PMS on Shield - broken since months and staff is still asking for samples - even though the problem is easy to reproduce. The latest firmware on shield makes it even more unusable - open files takes ages (confirmed by other users on nvidia forum).

I installed PMS now on my NAS (not as prowerfull as the shield, but it works) and have an eye on alternatives like emby…

Also joining the list of affected users. I can see memory in KODI filling up to around 90% after which it drops back to 50%. Shortly after this the transcoded movie on my phone stops playing.

As mentioned bu others disabling the hardware transcoding seems to fix the problem however transcoding 4K 100mbps movies without HW transcoding available doesn’t really work.

I have also monitored the temp file PMS uses for transcoding and although several files are created (>60) the overall size of all files does not seem to exceed 100MB. This seems strange looking at all the advice on the extra diskspace required to transcode (I have added 250GB SSD drive specially for Plex database and transcode directory).

Hope you can help.

Same here!
Also transcoded downloads are completely useless at the moment, most of them crash in the first seconds others after 15minutes. Only download in original quality works mostly

I PM’d the logs to you back in November (under a different username, ravennevar2018) and you responded here. Please see post 57.

It’s been months that this has been flagged as high priority, but still no resolution. Back then I did not use debug level logging in the Roku app, as you now mention, so I will try it again and send a new PM with the results.

@sa2000 - Logs have been PMd. Fails, as usual, around the 13-15 min mark for live tv.

It looks different. In that in this case it is the roku plex app that is asking the server to stop - this was at 12;15:20

I would need to see the roku debug logs together with corresponding server logs.to understand why the roku decided to abort. Please enable debug logging level on the app and if it is happening within 20 minutes then we can get logs from the roku by enabling network logging with the debug logging set - doing it just before start as the network logging runs for 20 minutes

When streaming aborts get the server logs and note down the time and i will look for the roku network log

Logs sent. Let me know if I can provide more information.

Still having the same issue. This affects every higher bitrate (10Mbs) x264 video file I have when attempting to remote stream 2 8Mbps remote transcodes. The hardware transcoder fails after 10 minutes or so and falls back on the software transcoder. The software transcoder can keep up with about one transcode but my server becomes worthless when I need two transcodes. If my remote user hits stop and then restarts the stream (instead of just letting it buffer) it works fine again for about 10 minutes.

Thank you for the server and roku logs. This time round it was the Plex Media Server on the Shield that shutdown and restarted during the livetv session on the roku. I suspect it may be memory related and the same issue as seen before. I will pass on the details and also try to reproduce the problem

I have the same problem ever since I bought my Shield (November 2018). I cannot use HW transcoding, which makes the Shield useless for many Plex tasks.

Any updates on when this will be fixed?

I contacted the nvidia support and wrote in their forums. Sniper (Moderator) asked me for submitting feedback after a crash (settings -> about -> send feedback to NVIDIA and select android apps -> plex as the category). You may have to change your privacy settings to submit logs, too. I suggest you to do the same.

Meanwhile the support confirmed, that they are aware of such issue. As the current plex build got delayed for QA, maybe they will finally fix this issue after ~eight months. Keeping fingers crossed!

Is this fix in the latest beta build? I didn’t see a note about it in the announcements

Shield didnt get the latest Build yet, as they still fixing issues.

Plex devs: - Any update from Plex, please?. Seems evident to me the problem is widely known, affecting Shield users and is reproducible.

Paying PlexPass customers should at least get an update as to where you are with it.

New beta update on shield, but no fix yet. Seems that the transcoder now mostly restart itself instead of ā€œjustā€ crashing. Of course this does not help anyone.

I am also having this issue. Will more logs / sample files help?

I have the same problem. Any updates on when this will be fixed?

I am afraid the answer is yes. The more samples the issue can be reproduced with the better and with latest versions of Plex Media Server and nVidia Experience version

1.14.1.5490 was released last week which has fix for losing server data when making use of the feature to move app data to user accessible internal storage or external storage

No problem. Just sent them to you. Let me know how else I can help. I have the media file, but I’m not sure how to trim it down to the first 10 minutes and then upload it for you to grab somewhere.
