IIRC, here’s your problem: HDMI ARC can’t handle DTS MA. It can handle Dolby Digital, DTS, and I believe Dolby Digital+ on some models. DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD (and I believe DTS-HRA and PCM) are too high of a bit rate for ARC. So the audio needs to be downgraded to reach your receiver.
Unfortunately, you’ll need to plug your Shield directly into the receiver to avoid this problem.
I’m pretty sure the new version of ARC will support the lossless codecs like TrueHD and DTS-MA, but I’m not entirely sure right now.
the other odd thing about this is the audio is coming from arc anyway to beam when playing from the sony tv plex app. so it seems the limitation is where you are running it via a hdmi in then to arc out.
I did some research a while back when I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get the lossless formats to transfer from my TV. A couple articles spelled it out, but here’s a good one. It talks about the original ARC (which your TV would have; I don’t know about your receiver), and the updated eARC protocols that allow stuff like Dolby Atmos.
