I never saw the problem, but I can confirm with the newest beta I can definitely maximize the playing window after it shrinks.
However, the behavior is still not to spec. I’ve only tested this so far with various episodes of the TV show, Mayor of Kingstown, many of which have mid-credits scenes for upcoming episodes. When I look at the xml file, there are two credit markers, one for when the credits begin, and another after the mid-credit scene (marked ‘final’). All the other clients I have (web, Windows desktop, Roku, Xbox, iOS) work properly, showing the Skip Credits button when credits begin, allowing a skip to the mid-credit scene, then another Skip Credits button after that scene, which ends the playback.
Android isn’t handling this properly. Not only does it just shrink the player instead of showing a Skip Credits button, it plays right through the initial credits marker until the mid-credits scene, and then shrinks.
[adding @DaveBinM because he’s been in other conversations about this]
Hmmm, I’ve just tested this with the current Android TV beta with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (FIVE mid and post-credit scenes!), and it worked as expected there. Are you able to post the Android logs, and the item XML, please?
Welp, it’s working now. Wasn’t two days ago (I mentioned I had only tested this with TV shows). But last night I updated to the latest beta (kepler-armv7a-amazon-9.17.0.38689-2727c07f), so perhaps that fixed it?
Still would like the credits playback not to shrink after the final marker for TV episodes.
I had been meaning to try it with the MCU movies, but hadn’t gotten around it yet. Tried Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and it worked great, as you said.
Are there any updates from Plex on this. I would like to retain credit markers but not have the auto shrinking behaviour on Shield/Android. Just want it to work the same way as the Skip Intro. Display a toggle that can be selected or ignored per user preference.
Do Plex consider the current behaviour on Android TV to be the final way it will operate or are they working to change? I think that is all that needs to be addressed.
Ditto. I would also like to know if Android TV will get a skip button, rather than this awful behavior of showing the episode list. Totally disabling the feature for now
Another problem with this current shrinking system is that frequently the outro has been detected wrong and so it shrinks way too soon, often times several minutes before the show is over. This has happened to me with multiple shows in just the last week.
None of that would matter if it was just a Skip button like the intros that you could ignore, but instead since it shrinks into a tiny box you have to scramble for the controller to get back to the show you’re trying to watch.
Plus, if you’re like me and intuitively try and hit the Back button, what instead happens is that you you leave the post-play screen and the episode is marked as watched even though it hasn’t actually finished yet. And then you have to fast forward to get back to where you were, only to trigger the outro shrinking box problem all over again.
I’m actually a big fan of this feature, including the “marked as watched once the outro marker hits”, but the way it’s implemented currently needs some quality of life improvements. Just swapping it to a Skip button would go long ways towards not only improving the experience when it works, but improving it when it doesn’t work as well.
Agree completely. I ended up disabling credits detection for this reason. I’d like to re-enable it, but won’t unless a Skip button is provided for Android clients.
Yeah, I kinda feel like this is the real issue – the new Credit Detection feature really doesn’t work very well for TV series. Many of my shows it only detects part of the credits, and jumps to a spot in the middle of them when you hit the button.
Even more frustrating is the fact that because it doesn’t work as it should on Android TV, I have it switched off on the server and therefore other clients can’t have it enabled.
