Not updating from tvdb since updating to 1.32.0.6918

Updated the server to 1.32.0.6918 yesterday. Since then any TV shows I have added are not having their metadata downloaded from tvdb.

If I try a manual scan of tvdb it immediately comes back with “No matches found”. If I try a change to The Movie Database it finds metadata OK. So the tvdb metadata scanner has stopped working since the update. As most of my TV shows are matched to tvdb (and it’s metadata is better than The Movie Database for TV shows) can this issue be sorted out please?

Can you post your server logs?

Hi I have same issue here are my server logs

I have the exact same problem and symptoms as the original poster. 1.32.0.6918 has broken my server’s ability to download any metadata from TVDB for newly added shows. TMDB still works but I find that database inferior to TVDB’s metadata. Here are my server logs.

I have the same issue here as well @dbirch I don’t believe it’s related to anything you stated in my post…

@BigWheel Any assistance from Plex would be great since we are Plex Pass… ty

@kgalea1978 are your files on a NAS?

@cowbawx You are not having the same errors.

@vendikar I am only seeing messages about The Hobbit.m4b can you Plex dance a file, and then post a new copy of the server logs along with the name of the affected file?

@dbirch How do you figure? The description of this issue in the first post describes my problem exactly. tvdb doesnt work, and moviedv does. Perhaps it has to do with tvdb charging for the api now? Maybe Plex does want to talk about this in forums because they dont want to publicly advertise that they don’t really support tvdb anymore unless the end-user buys it?

@cowbawx Your logs show a DNS resolution error, and the Modern Plex agent doesnt pull directly from either the TVDB or the tmdb. They pull from a combined database at plex.tv. Many problems can present with similar symptoms, but have many different causes.

Just because you get a stomach ache doesn’t mean you have stomach cancer, just because the other guy with an upset stomach ended up having stomach cancer

I’m not using the Modern Plex agent. I’m using the legacy.

Also, just because I get a stomach ache doesn’t mean I have stomach cancer – but it could… just like the other guy had it. Not a great analogy, but I do appreciate your assistance. It all worked before I updated. Pretty weird coincidence that other folks are having similar issues… or maybe not, like you said… but maybe so! No one who works for Plex has commented on any forum posts relating to these issues. I find that very interesting… @BigWheel

@cowbawx keep in mind the legacy scanners will stop working at some point. We may have hit that point…

Can you try creating a new library and using the modern agent?

Now that I could agree with! Yes, I can try that… But if we hit that point, why wouldn’t they just disable the legacy scanners altogether, instead of just break the functionality?

Who says Plex broke it? could be one of 20 different things. As I said the errors in your logs show DNS issues, kgakea’s and vendikar’s logs show different things.

Well, it only started when I updated PMS. Also, you also said I didn’t have verbose on… I am still looking into the network issues… but I don’t really have anything that could cause those things… I had malwarebytes running but closed it.

Anyway - UPDATE: So I created another TV library with the legacy, and used thetvdb and NOTHING gets downloaded. I bet you money if I select themoviedb or upgrade to the modern it will work fine… i’ll wait to hear back from you before i change anything.

@dbirch Thank you for taking a look at my issues. Here are my latest logs after having attempted to add the 1958 TV series “The Yogi Bear Show.” After adding the folder with the proper folder structure, I used the Plex dashboard to scan library files. Then, after the scan is complete, I see the show added to my TV show library . . . but no metadata has been scraped off TVDB. No poster, no episode names or descriptions, nada. The show just has “episode 1, episode 2, episode 3,” etc. etc.

I am using the legacy scanners for movies and TV.

Another anomaly I have noticed since updating to 1.32.0.6918: Any movie I have added since the update no longer shows Rotten Tomatoes ratings, even though RT is my selected choice in settings. Instead, movies now show The Movie Database ratings. The movies also do not show the critics’ reviews from RT.

I can say with certainty that the ratings glitch began with the 1.32.0.6918 update. Three movies I added to my library 15 minutes before running the update have the Rotten Tomatoes ratings and the critics’ reviews. Every movie I added since the update uses The Movie Database ratings and has no critics’ reviews. Very odd.

Can you create a test library using the modern agent? I am starting to suspect there is an issue with the legacy agents.

I am starting to suspect there is an issue with the legacy agents.

Yeah, it makes some sense. I dread that is the case, because I have large libraries and have been putting off upgrading to the new agents. My folder structures are good, generally, but there are nevertheless bound to be some that are not or that I have made customization to. I am imagining it will take many hours to get things back to the good order I have them now.

But I get it that a test library with the modern agents makes sense to try. Is there a recommended method you would suggest to set up a virgin test library? I totally understand that the day may well be fast coming to upgrade to the new agents, but until I am sure, I’d rather go as painless as possible with a safe test.
