Should u put a bitrate changer even for 4K Movies

Server Version#:4.47.3
Player Version#:5.2.0

Hi, I have a problem with the Plex app on my LG BX55 TV.
I have my full 4K movies in my library with super high bitrate (highest is 85 Mbps). The problem is that my network can’t handle the video player, so I have a buffering every 5 seconds. I know I can change the bitrate and I did, but guess what? When I change the bitrate to 20 Mbps it is only in 1080P and not in 4K and consequently HDR is also not enabled. In the options it says differently: 20 Mbps 4K, when instead I go to change the bitrate quality inside the video player it says only: 20 Mbps 1080P …
So this is a big problem, can you Plex Team please try to fix it? Add an option where I can change the bitrate to keep 4K quality and HDR of course, and add more bitrate options, not only 20 Mbps maximum, but also 30,40,50 up to 70. In my opinion this will bring more people to use your app and have fewer complaints and hassles.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Lowering the bitrate negates the reason to use high bitrate 4K. If you plan on watching 4K HDR movies you should have at least have a gigabit network and not use a wireless connection for your plex client. You might check to see if your high bitrate video is transcoding for your device as this could causing buffering too if your plex server is not powerful enough to handle the 4K transcode.

My net in download is maximum 55mbps, I’m connected in LAN and not in wireless.
And I dont transcode the movies from my pc, I watch the movies from my pc only using the whole download bandwidth. My question is simple, 4k movies always but with lower Bitrate, I want remember u that others companies have put down his Bitrate for 4k contents to 15mbps,so Plex could do this too. Of course 15mbps of Bitrate isn’t like 50 or 80, but I can maintain On HDR and enjoy the quality. :slightly_smiling_face:

Let me clarify a couple of things. Your Internet download speed has nothing to do with your local network speed. If you are streaming remotely over the internet, your speed is typically limited to your upload Internet speed which is typically a lot lower then your download speed so this means that remote streaming is typically transcoded.

If you are viewing over your local network, depending on the plex client/device the video may be transcoded. If you are using a browser to view the 4K video it is most likely transcoded. You need to install the actual Windows Plex client and your computer’s video card will need to also support 4K and typically they are not cheap for a good one. Cheap 4K cards normally don’t work well and cause buffering and glitching. I have ran in to this my self.

To check if the video is transcoding, play the video file and then check your server under activity. If it is not direct play then it i being transcoded.

For the moment I bought a external hard disk for connect it directly to the TV, when plex in future will do the update that I mean, I will be happy of that. :+1::relaxed:
