Show "A Man on the Inside" is reporting multiple tvdb ids

FYI… this show [A Man on the Inside - TheTVDB.com] is returning multiple tvdb ids:

A Man on the Inside (2024)
  plex://show/65be308856d4e337fe684844
  imdb://tt26670955
  tmdb://245312
  tvdb://432085
  tvdb://445646

The second one is correct 445646 while 432085 goes to the a show entry called A Classic Spy which to be looks like a dup at tvdb.

This is happening more and more often and I’ve a fair few shows now reporting multiple ids. You really need a root and branch review of your back-end metadata code, its got some fundamental problems!

If TVDB has a duplicate, it is not Plex’s bug. The data are flowing from TVDB to Plex, not the other way around.

It maybe a duplicate but that’s a guess. I don’t see any linkage between 432085 and 445646. Moreover, there is no link between 432085 and imdb or tmdb. Also the tmdb links to the correct entry 445646 so whatever plex is doing on their side is causing the dup.

The plex code is not robust enough and is using a more is better approach at scraping data. More in this example equals bad data.

I’ll also add… that because of this duplicate id the use to tvdb episode ordering will NOT work due to the fact that the wrong entry (432085) is first in the list of plex ids and has no episodes listed on tvdb.

It’ll be only a matter of time before some more threads start to get created for this …

No, the duplicate exists on TVDB. That is where it must be deleted.
It is pretty clear that these are identical shows. They share an alternate title.
One was created way in advance, and left only as a husk.

This is such a BS answer and to be honest a real disappointment, especially coming from a moderator here I respect :frowning:

Plex (no one else) has decided to pull metadata from multiple places, its their code after all that pulls these dups. Plex consolidates that data wrongly, incorrectly pulling multiple entries into one. Yes the data flows from tvdb, but plex has decided within their code logic to pull multiple entries including the empty one left as a husk as you correctly pointed out.

This whole consolidation approach is badly designed with what seems like only basic level of validation from the sources they scrape from. It should not matter how many dups exists, plex could (and should) be improved to validate things better, pick the best and should NEVER have dup ids. Sure, plex don’t even clean up ids when they are removed as is pointed out in this thread, which btw is still an issue so your suggestion of deleting the tvdb entry has no guarantee of fixing this!

Regardless, do with it what you want, I’m done trying to help the community and fix plexs many metadata problems. Slán!

You don’t want to understand this, I suppose.

Are Plex able to do anything on their side to remove the duplicate ID from their data please? The show is not pulling any episode metadata and when coming on the forum to find how to report it I found this post and assume this is the cause. I submitted a ticket on tvdb to have the duplicate deleted but I don’t know if they will or if that would even resolve it on the Plex side.

Just an update but I got an email from TVDB confirming the bad duplicate has been removed. Hopefully that can help get this resolved quickly.

This may not remove the duplicate from the plex back-end. Its been confirmed by their development team that they do not cleanup ids well and it requires manual intervention on their side. See thread Double plex guids validation for movies, series and episodes - #7 by drzoidberg33 if your interested were I pointed out I have almost 400 duplicates across movies, shows and episodes.

Anyhow, lets see, this might be the exception to the rule!

I just did another refresh metadata on it and all the season and metadata info has populated now. With duplicates and bad info getting pulled in I agree with your comment on the Day of the Jackal post that it would be good if we could choose a source. Would also prevent issues where tvdb and tmdb are in conflict too.

Just checked and the dup id is from tvdb is now gone. Thankfully this is one of those times the ids were cleaned up.
