Show "Sunny (2024)" getting incorrect metadata and has multiple tmdb ids

This new show Sunny (TV Series 2024-2024) — The Movie Database (TMDB) is getting some very weird metadata in plex. See s01e01 metadata below:

Notice the air date of Jan 1st 1979, the title, summary, overview and cast credits. Initially, as the show is new I thought it was just the usual wait for the plex metadata to catchup with the online sources, however so far its not fixed itself.

So I done a little digging and I can see at the show level this series has multiple tmdb ids (see below taken from show level xml data):

<Guid id="imdb://tt18070898"/>
<Guid id="tmdb://105298"/>
<Guid id="tmdb://157226"/>
<Guid id="tvdb://415975"/>

The first one in the list goes to Sunny (TV Series 1979-1979) — The Movie Database (TMDB) which is incorrect and matches the metadata above whereas Sunny (TV Series 2024-2024) — The Movie Database (TMDB) is the correct one.

Can someone from the metadata team review this on their back-end and do a cleanup to remove the bad id.

I’ve filed a report.

Thank you. Sidebar question. Do you know of a way to bulk check if a movie or show has multiple ids assigned to it ? When investigating (Correct Movie Match but incorrect Tags and Crew (Plex Agent) - #3 by dokuro) I looked in the db as I assumed it would be stored there however I could not find them.

I’d be happy to help validate on my end with my 4,500 movies, 1,000 shows and 38,000 episodes to see if there is additional duplicate ids but I’m just not sure how best to do it.

Sorry, no idea about that.
Since the XML is built “live” when you request it, it might even fetch these guids from plex.tv (pure speculation on my part, though).

Okay, thanks.

Oh, I now remember reading that and had completely forgotten! Let me take a look and see if I can get it working against my libraries. Thanks.

Actually it doesn’t quite do what you want. It doesn’t find duplicates and doesn’t work for movies.

Weird - Mine have been in since yesterday and are fine

Good info, that is weird indeed. I’ll force another plex dance later and see if it makes any difference. Maybe the time was a factor when I added it and its now stuck with bad data on my end.

Anyhow, I’ll confirm later …

EDIT: Plex dance made no difference. I guess its probably a region thing (I’m in Ireland) and/or language settings but weird all the same!

Any update from the report ? I’m still seeing this issue and its not resolved after multiple plex dance attempts.

I don’t think this is regional since I’m in the US and seeing the same thing. I even tried to fix it using a plexmatch file with hints to the correct info and it’s still using the wrong info.

I added this July 11th at 9:46 pm EST and both episode 1 and 2 have the correct info.
I am in the US (East coast).

I also looked at the XML and only have 1 IMDB ID and 1 TVDB ID for each episode.

Can you check the ids at the show level, not episode level. Curious what you have.

Edit: Oh, do you use tvdb episode ordering by any chance?

Be happy to if you point me how to do that.
I am only familiar with getting the XML for the episode info from the web.

And yes, my library default is TVDB for episode ordering and I did not change it at the series level for this show.

Okay, I bet it’s a tmdb episode ordering problem which is why it’s working for some. I’ll check later when I’m back at my pc and adjust the order on the the show as a test.

BTW… To get top level ids you can use this method Support Music release type Album + Spokenword - #8 by dokuro which was written for tracks and albums but is the same for episodes and series.

My userscript makes it really easy to view the XML for any media.

Thanks for that tip, didn’t realize that was possible.

Here is the information from doing that.

<Guid id="imdb://tt18070898"/>
<Guid id="tmdb://105298"/>
<Guid id="tmdb://157226"/>
<Guid id="tvdb://415975"/>

Thanks, that pretty much confirms it as its identical to what I reported above.

Confirmed - changing the episode ordering to tvdb (aired) gives the correct titles and summary for the episodes, however the cast is still from Sunny (TV Series 1979-1979) — The Movie Database (TMDB). I’d say its the same for you but would be worth checking.

Hopefully plex can fix this soon as well as Correct Movie Match but incorrect Tags and Crew (Plex Agent) which is another right mess. Typically these are fixed very quickly but the Alvin and the Chipmunks issue is 22 days and counting.
