Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876
Player Version#: 4.49.2
From what I can gather here and here, this (new, beginning with 1.21.3759) feature should be under Settings >[Server Name] > Library > Show Advanced > Show Curated Recommendations, but I’m on an even later version (3876) and I can’t find it anywhere.
I’ve restarted the server and refreshed the web (both Chrome & FF; 4.49.2). I’ve also tried the local web (4.47.3) directly from the server PC (Win10 Pro, v2004). If this option is supposed to be available in this version (and it’s mentioned again specifically in the .3876 Release Notes), I can’t find it.
I am (and have been for a while now) managing my Home Screen manually (vs. Automatically) for Web (it is still Automatic on Android) but, while that may impact whether or not I would actually see any of the Curated Hubs if I enabled the option, I wouldn’t think it would make a difference as to whether or not the option even exists in the server settings.
Understood. But my issue is not with Seasonal (and Event based, according to the Release Notes) hubs displaying on the home screen, it’s about where the option to control these “Curated Recommendations” is located and/or why I don’t seem to have it on my server.
Or are you suggesting that the control option itself disappears from server settings when there are no seasonal or event hubs to display? That seems unlikely.
+1 for NEVER EVER wanting any seasonal garbage or plex curated recommendations on my server. Its my server, I added all its contents so its already curated to my content.
It smell fishy to me that this has been ‘silently’ removed from the server settings. The cynic in my sees this coming back in some other form but will curb my concerns until that actually happens.
It is disabled because there is no seasonal hub at the moment, it would come back if there was one in the future (and previous state would be restored).
We could have left the setting live… the reason it went away is an implementation detail, and one we are happy to revisit.
Thanks. So, if I understand correctly, you don’t really mean it’s been disabled in Server settings (as in, the “Show Curated Recommendations” option itself has been set to disabled), you mean it’s been removed (as in, the entire setting has been completely removed from Server settings).
If that’s that case, then you have to admit your own Release Notes (posted by you, at least) for the 1.21.1.3876 release (currently the latest available) are rather misleading (as shown below). I’ve noticed Release Notes seem to be a largely copy/paste affair, anyway… where the same “NEW” feature and/or “FIXES” are mentioned for several releases.
I agree that this explanation is a bit suspect. Why would the setting need to be removed versus just setting it to disabled? And would THAT even be necessary? Shouldn’t the hub just not display if there is currently no curated content to fill it with… and then display again when there is? Perhaps it’s not working exactly as intended, but that’s not the explanation that’s being provided here.
Regardless, a simple note in the Release Notes for 3876 (for example: “FIXES: Seasonal and Event based Hubs removed from settings for further refinement”) would have saved me (and possibly others) a not insignificant amount of time troubleshooting, searching, posting, and replying. Instead, they suggest just the opposite… and had me looking specifically for a “NEW” setting that apparently doesn’t exist (not with this release, at least).
I’d love to see detailed Release Notes that didn’t look like an afterthought, but it doesn’t seem that anyone wants to document anything anymore, unfortunately.
