Viewing what’s being played on your server is definitely something we’ll add.
Thank you.
While working this out. I wouldn't object to email reports. I used to get emails from my Xbox. So sad yesterday, nobody came by play with me.
Plex team rules!
Elan - Thanks for another reply, it is great to know this is still on your radar. I am up in Lake Tahoe California skiing and I bought a ROKU to access my content from SF. I had severe buffering issues, long story short is that when I remoted into my Mac Pro server at home I found I had 4 people streaming (parents, brother, daughter, etc). I didn’t realize how many people were using my server. I really need to be able to set a limit on the number of open transcoding sessions. My old Mac Pro just can’t handle more than 2-3. I have done a bit of coding in my life, enough to know that adding something like shouldn’t be too hard, really.
if Number of Transcoding Streams >=X write error "This server has reached streaming capacity, please try again later. Thanks"
Ok so in reality its probably like 10 lines of code, but still.
I posted this months ago, could throw us that small little bone in the next few weeks? I know most of your resources have been allocated to getting the Windows 8 Server/Clients optimized and bug free, but with those largely completed, maybe we can focus our attention back to these much needed and desired features.
Thanks!
+1
Waiting for this Feature…
Sounds like a good idea that would benefit most of us
Or you could just call your family and tell them to get off your server...
Although I have enough bandwidth to stream dozens of simultaneous streams, I do use QOS to make sure I have enough for myself. I manage this by hosting 2 seperate PMS's on two different virtual machines and then prioritize the two different ports. Works well, but requires some proper hardware.
Ability to limit the number of simultaneous Transcoding streams per user! Plex is so awesome my users have lent their accounts to other family members in the past…limiting the number of transcoding streams per user would fix this.
+1
This is the feature that I’d probably like to see added more than any other at this time. Glad to see it’s on the radar!
Can’t get enough of the Plex ecosystem and as I spread the good word through my family and friends seems they can’t get enough or my libraries… +1 for seeing whats going on back there…
+1 here. great idea. I’d love to see who’s doing what and how much.
Of course I want this functionality too! But something else that would add to it is a quick, at-a-glance, way to see if Plex is being used at all. BeyondTV shows a little red dot in the middle of the system tray icon when recording is in progress. If Plex could do something similar, just to show that it’s being used. On a Mac, it will let you know if transcoding is in progress and how many things are being transcoded.
idk if this works for you or in general, but i usually know someone is on my server because i'll have an instance of plextranscorder running. you can also always check the logs, just very hard to figure out what's going on in there.
big +1 on this feature. i like spying on my friends and knowing what they are watching.
If only Elan could have the money to buy Trakt.TV
+1 please add a easy way to check if the PMS is currently stream.
i love to send my mac mini in sleep mode when idle - so it would be nice to know if somebody is streaming !
That works, or even going into the resource monitor and clicking the plex process. You can even see what is being streamed there (a few options, but the easiest to to sort by Read B/s--anything being streamed is usually near the top of the list) and to whom (by clicking network and sorting) if you which IP belongs to whom. There are a ton of options, I just want something quick and easy. This is definitely not a priority right now though, I love the other changes that are happening (especially Kepler)!!!!
I found this: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/19265-plex-api-get-info-on-currently-playing-item/
and get Aware of the XML Server Link
-> “http://127.0.0.1:32400/status/playing”
-> “http://127.0.0.1:32400/status”
Which for me is going in the perfect direction (showing what the Server is playing).
Any ideas if this Feature will be improved and when ?
man oh man do i need to see whats been played and on what device and when, hope this comes soon
