Lifetime Plex Pass
I have searched the plex forum and internet with no straight answer to my problem. I currently have 2 Plex servers located in different networks. One was installed on my ReadyNAS 516 and was working fine until I signed out of the server. And the other on my QNAP TVS-471. They both seem to have the same issue. Once I signed out of my account I lost connectivity to the server and my plex account no longer has it listed as a registered device. The issue is I can’t see or access the server directly without being redirected to my Plex login page to select a user. Like all the forums say I navigate to my local address (http://local IP address of my plex server:32400/web). Then it redirects me to a select user page (http://local IP address of my plex server:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/account) which 4 accounts exist. When I select the main admin account there is no option for me to sign in to the server with my plex account.
You’re close. Don’t get stressed out and make any major changes. If all you did was sign out, that’s not a huge problem. It’s when people reinstall or change emails, passwords, it’s chaos.
sI’m not confident that I remember the quick answer, sorry, but I wanted to reply before it gets worse.
Start by reading the website articles. They are great at solving things like this.
I’ll link a few but there could be more.
The crux is establishing your stair of logins, first to Plex.tv, then over http to your server locally, and finally over https to your server. Sometimes further efforts are required.
and
to a lesser extent this one
and in general this one
I would start by signing out and back in to your Plex.tv account using a desktop/laptop.
Then open a new tab to your PMS and try out the website directions that cover basic installation. If you get stuck in those steps, move on to the specific articles 1 and 2 and lastly number 3 after asking questions here.
Thanks nibbles, for the quick reply.
Yes, I had come across all these articles and walked through these steps with no success.
The issue is I never get the icon to select my server settings.
If I disconnect from the internet and try and remote into it locally I get the following massage: Plex is not reachable. The only difference is I only get the option to select the admin account.
Ok I’m going to think about this in a few hours after some fun.
Plex has a ladder of authentication starting with being logged into Plex.tv.
Hopefully the step where you’re stuck has something obvious I’ll spot.
connect with http, then https, all the while being careful to avoid antivirus, other security, VPNs, etc that can affect the TLS negotiations.
I only have one PMS server on this LAN and another at my other home on a different LAN. (But for the time being, let us forget about the other server.) I also only have one plex.tv account. When I use the link you listed https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/pms it keeps going around in a loop asking me to select a login account and then asking me to log into my plex.tv account. If I login directly to the plex.tv URL then click on the account then settings and then navigate to Authorized Devices. It has no servers listed. If I force the URL by changing the end of the URL from …/devices/all to …/devices/pms it just redirects me back to …/devices/all.
Ok sorry to hear it’s looping like that.
I would expect that URL to list your two servers attached to your one account.
I’ve asked about your one account, because you mentioned in your OP that
Then it redirects me to a select user page (http://local IP address of my plex server:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/account) which 4 accounts exist.
I get it now that you have 4 users and 1 account at Plex’s website.
It can confuse your PMS servers if you make changes to your Plex account or create more than one account that tries to administer or to resolve a problem.
If the 2 PMS servers remain claimed, and you’ve only had one account, and both server’s Preferences.xml files refer to your account as described in the website document on Cant See Server Settings, then you should be able to carefully log out of everything and back into things in the correct order, taking care to avoid pitfalls of Javascript blockers, VPN, Antivirus, anti cookie, anti-ads, anti-malware, or Security software.
Here’s sort of how to log out and log in, as described in the website articles.
Following those directions to
sign out of your servers
sign out of the web app
use a web browser, surf to Plex.tv and sign out of their website.
Then the articles talk about editing your Preferences.xml file.
I’m not sure that’s needed yet.
Instead, lets see what careful logins show.
Start with
clearing browser cache, cookies, disabling javascript blockers, ad blockers.
restart the web browser and power cycle the PMS computer.
after giving PMS 6min to do internal housekeeping,
Log into the Plex.tv website using your web browser.
Once logged in, the top right of the website will switch from a Sign In button to a Launch button. Press the Launch to open a Plex Web App.
You should be automatically logged into the Plex Web App by the Website.
You should see your avatar.
Screenshot what you see.
Click Authorized Devices in the left column.
Screenshot what you see.
At the top of the Authorized Devices display, change All to say Servers
Good news is these steps you laid out help, and I now have one of my plex servers up and running with no issues. As soon as I logged out of everything and cleaned out my cache and edited my Preferences.xml by removing PlexOnlineHome, PlexOnlineMail, PlexOnlineToken and PlexOnlineUsername as indicated in the https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ article, everything started working once I logged back in. (I also added my local IP address/netmask in the Preferences.xml* file. Not sure if this made any difference.) I was then able to reclaim back the server.
I quickly tried to get the other server back up and running by remoting in and following the same steps but no luck. I get a different error " No soup for you! The server you’re trying to access doesn’t want to let you in. Make sure you’re signed in as a user with access to this server." (The dumb thing is I uninstalled this server before you posted not to uninstall anything. My bad.) I plan to try again tomorrow but within the local LAN network.
Thanks so much nibbles for all your help so far, it’s much appreciated.
oh that’s great news about server 1 working again. I’m not 100% sure what happens to server #2 after uninstall, but you may get into having to claim it again. The website article above would probably help, but you can also look into claimit.sh which is a script written by Dane the moderator iirc.
Hi nibbles,
Just wanted to let you know I now have both servers up & running and claimed by my Plex account. I was able to clam the other server as soon as my laptop was in the same IP range as the server with a little help from the claimit.sh script/application. ([REL] ClaimIt) Feel free to close this post now. Thank you again for all your help.
