Can't access server settings - server linked to wrong account

This is seriously strange…
I have two Plex accounts - one that I used to use back in the day, and one that I switched over to once I got my Plex Pass. The old account was then put on ice and was never used again. This is years ago.
My server is running on a QNAP box and everything was working fine (minus the android TV client - but that’s a different story altogether).
This morning I wanted to check out the new web UI, so I open the webapp, go into settings, check the preview option, and when I go back to the main page, the server is offline. Not only that, but I suddenly notice that the username appearing under the server name is my old user! when I go into the settings there are no server settings.
So I fire up the local version on the web app (http://QNAP_IP:32400/web/) where the server appears online, but also with the wrong username and no option to access the server settings.
After trying out a bunch of things (like https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/) with no luck, I accessed the local server address from an incognito window (thus, not logged in to my plex account) and managed to access the server settings. I figured I’ll try to sign out the server from my account (even though it showed the correct (new) account) and then reclaim it, but after signing out I was unable to reclaim the account. I am now stuck in a loop where I try to claim the account, this sends me to log in to my plex.tv account, and then I get back to the server settings page where it says “an unclaimed server was found”. I am simply stumped. No idea how this happened all of a sudden and no idea how to solve it.
Also tried rolling back my server to a previous version - no luck.

Any ideas? cause right now I don’t have remote access or anything. server is pretty much unusable.

Thanks

Edit: this got long so might as well add this -
TL;DR - Server for some reason thinks it has something to do with an old account that I can’t find any traces of anywhere. Trying to reclaim with new account (that already has been working fine for years) fail.

Not your server is in the wrong account, but your browser.
In the web app click on your avatar in the upper, right corner.
Sign Out
Now sign back in to the new account

Thanks, but I am signed in to the new (correct) account. I haven’t used the old account in years.
Even when using Incognito (not signed in to any account) I am unable to use the local web app properly and claim the server.

Edit: also tried a different browser altogether…

Edit 2: the old username is showing up under the server name!

Edit 3: It’s like the old account is still present in the server settings somewhere, but when checking out the “Preferences.xml” on the NAS the correct account details show up… :confounded:

I have removed the server from your old account.
It had an identical ID to the server on your new account. Which was probably the source of this mixup.

Reboot your NAS,
wait a few minutes,
restart your web browser please

I think this same thing is happening to me. I’ve posted in a couple other threads and started my own, but had difficulty explaining exactly what was happening. It started for me yesterday after a server update. Can you help me too please? Thx

It appears to be similarly, yes. I have removed the server from your secondary account.

Thank you. I now have an issue with electricity to the room my server is in, so I can’t test to see if resolved! Will update ASAP

For people with a similar situation:

  1. you have now changed to a new plex.tv account
  2. you used to use the same server installation in the older plex account, but have now signed-in the server to the newer plex account
  3. you have shared your server with the other plex account

Sign in to the older plex.tv account in the web app
call up the list of servers which are signed into this old account
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/pms
Delete the servers from there

Afterwards, reboot all your servers and after a few minutes all your clients as well.
(Some client types (Android) may require additionally that you sign them out of your account, restart and then sign back in.)

@OttoKerner
Thanks! this solved my issue. Was going nuts over here…

Deleted, hopefully fixed…Thx

@OttoKerner
So unfortunately the issue is back somehow. While my old user doesn’t seem to be in play any more, I am unable to claim the server with my new user.

So the situation right now is this:

  • When loading the web app through plex.tv I can’t see my server.
  • When loading the web app through the local NAS IP address I see it fine, and it says the server is claimed correctly. However -
  • When I log in (with my newer account, the one the server should be associated with) to the page you mentioned (https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/pms) I can’t see my server listed there
  • Trying to sign out at the server settings page and reclaim it doesn’t change anything.

Any ideas what can I try?

Edit: just to be clear, remote access isn’t working currently, and accessing the server through plex.tv web app isn’t working.

You could perform the beginning of the “Why am I locked out…” procedure again, but when it comes to claiming the server, use this script instead: GitHub - ukdtom/ClaimIt: ClaimIt 4 Plex Media Server

I’ve also just heard about a rare bug in the web app, which occurs sometimes immediately after claiming a server. You will have to close the browser and restart it, or some requests will fail.

Somehow things seem to have gone back to normal over the night… no explanation…

I don’t really like computers, you know?
