Similar Artist for music is listed as a free app feature , one needs a Plex Pass for Plex Mix.
I am a Plex Pass user but do not see how an option to see similar artist or Plex Mix on my client which is Plex App on Ipad 2 and Amazon Fire TV.
I am a Plex Pass user. Can some one point me to some good documentation on how I can get these two options to work for me on the mentioned clients ?
Both of these features are only available in a Premium Music library.
This in turn can only be created if your Plex server is NOT running on FreeBSD (and thus FreeNAS) because the necessary Gracenote software library is not supported there.
If you are not on FreeBSD or FreeNAs , but you created your music library before the 30th April 2015 or before you got your plex pass, you need to create a new Premium music library. The link above should tell you all necessary info (make sure to explore all the links).
Thanks for the prompt response.
I am not running PMS on FreeBSD. I am running it on Ubuntu.
I was able to create Premium Library and got details on how to create a Plex Mix and use moods from the support pages
“How to start a Plex Mix” and “How do I use mood information for tracks”.
Also was able to access these playlists from my iPad when I created the playlists.
I could not find how to use “Similar Artist” which I believe to be different from Plex Mix.
Also could not figure out how to remove tracks when I filer by mood before I create a playlist by mood. Cumulative filters are possible but is not the same as being able to select or remove track before saving it to a playlist
‘Similar Artists’ only shows artists in your own library. So you must have actually some artists that are connected somehow.
You can check whether the feature works already in Plex Web.
I understand some of the new style client apps (Smart TV, Roku Preview app and maybe the Android TV app also show related Artists)
The current publicly available iOS app doesn’t support any of the newer music features. You have to wait for the revamped app.
A mood playlist is a ‘smart’ playlist. That type of playlist is not editable.
You can, however, copy the contents of a smart playlist into a ‘dumb’ playlist:
start playing the smart playlist in Plex Web
click on the hamburger icon bottom-right
click on the ‘Add to playlist’ icon in the ‘Up Next’ “drop-up” menu
name the copied playlist, which is a ‘dumb’ playlist and can therefore be edited
Thanks very helpful. Also the snapshot made it intuitive
I suppose I will need to wait for the upgrade of the App on iPad
Strangely Playlists thus created show up on the iPad client but does does not on the Amazon Fire TV. Which I suppose is the Android App. The Plex client app is the latest for FTV. In-fact none of the playlists show up on FTV
I have no Android devices myself. I think you better ask in the FireTV subforum about the playlist support. The release notes imply that the plain Android app does support playlists, but I don’t know whether there are tweaks made for the FireTV.
Is there any tag I can edit to make “similar artists” show up? They work in general but are missing the oddd one.
Example:
Artist: The Cult
Similar: Death Cult (shown in Plex)
Similar: Souther Death Cult (not shown in Plex)
The artists and their albums are shown individually, I am trying to just add missing similar “links”
