I expect I am in the minority but I do not want any of Plex’s “extras” such as artist information, popular tracks or similar tracks.
I have worked out how to get rid of the first two but I do not know how to lose the (extremely annoying) "similar artists’ that come up in the Artist view.
Can anyone help?
You may be in the minority but I absolutely DETEST Plex making any suggestions.
I do not like them on the post play screen or any place else in the Plex interface.
However I do not use Plex for music at all so I do not see what you are seeing. I guess that is one way to avoid “similar artists” completely.
I have really given up on Plex ever seeing/believing that their suggestions are unwanted so I have tried very hard to simply not see or notice them. I am not 100% successful but I am enough so that I no longer feel the near constant irritation when Plex puts me in those trashy screens. I simply quickly click away to get to where I really want to be.
For some reason Plex thinks we (the users) are simply too stupid to make good decisions on our own. They are about as wrong and wrong headed as they can be but they are not going to change and I very much doubt that there is any way to avoid “similar artists” and, to be honest, I am surprised that you have been able to suppress the other two.
There’s no way to turn that off currently.

Either
edit your current music library,
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab and set the ‘Agent’ to ‘Personal Media Artists’
or
delete your music library
and create a new one.
While creating the library, make sure to go to the ‘Adanced’ tab and set the agent to ‘Personal Media Artists’
Now Plex will rely solely on your file and folder names and embedded meta data.
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/sections/200058637-Naming-and-Organizing-Music-Media
No other metadata are downloaded from elsewhere.
Thanks for the help. It looks like I will have to delete my current music library and start again.
As much as I like Plex’s GUI, I’m starting to wonder if it is the best media player for me. I am particularly frustrated by my inability to find a way for Plex to play nicely with my 500+ classical albums. A naming convention of Artist/Album/Track will simply not work for me.
This may not be the appropriate forum to ask (and if that is the case I apologise up front) but can anyone suggest an alternative music player for Mac that might work better for me? I use dBpoweramp to rip my CDs and that gives me the folder structure in Finder that I want. All I really want to do now is put that file structure into an attractive and user friendly GUI.
Any thoughts?

I do not know if there is a version for the Mac but I use MediaMonkey on a small computer for all my audio that is piped into my whole house audio system. I have wireless keyboards and Android tablets with MediaMonkey remote around the house and I can control everything as needed.
For me there is nothing I have found that is as easy to use or as powerful for music as MediaMonkey and, if you do not need some “advanced” features it is free. It works almost flawlessly with all forms of music and even works great with audiobooks.
I tried to adapt Plex’s audio functions for my needs but found that while Plex works extremely well for video functions it is simply under powered and overly complex for my use with audio.
Edit: I checked real quickly and I found this that “might” be MediaMonkey for the Mac:
Of course I have no way to be sure or to test but it looks promising.
Thanks Elijah, I’ve read good things about MediaMonkey. Unfortunately, it’s not available for OSX.

See my edit above, maybe???
I would have preferred a native OSX application rather than using Wine but I’ll definitely give it a go. Thanks

That’s not an option on Music libraries. Just Movies.
Of course it is.
At least if your music library is one of the ‘last.fm’ type.
Only when your music library of the ‘Premium Music’ type, you can’t change it.

Ah, so I see. Haven’t used basic libraries in a while.
