Simpsons is killing me

I have all 27 seasons of The Simpsons. All episodes load into Plex, BUT the metadata for seasons 15-24 will not load. All my seasons are titled using filebot directly from the tvdb and look as such “The Simpsons - 15x01 - Treehouse of Horror XIV”. I know it’s missing the E15E01 mentality but I’ve tried overwriting to that and still nothing. Again 1-14, then 25-27 load the episode info, posters, etc just fine. I’ve tried renaming, removing from plex entirely and reloading 1 season at a time, resetting server, etc. etc. etc. Nothing is working… Out of ideas, Help? Thanks in advance

Just to clarify, E15E01 should be S15E01

Now, on to the bigger problem. When you look at TheTVDB.com can you see the metadata for the individual episodes which don’t get metadata in PMS?

My typo… Yes you are correct, S15E01. and yes if you see here http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=71663&lid=7 all the data is there.

Hey there,

i have the same problem…
But not only with simpsons:

  • Pokemon
  • Simpsons
  • Law and Order: SVU

and others.

When i only copy a few seasons from simpsons, plex can load the data without problems. But if the series reach an limit of episodes (i think) it can’t load anymore data…
I’m not sure, but i think, the limit is ~300/320 episodes. Less than that is working for me.

(Sorry for my english…)

a 300 episode limit?

Can you count your episodes through seasons 1-14? I do know there is a daily limit on certain things but not a ‘total limit’. Being Plex Pass, you should not have this limit AFAIK.

Interesting. I wonder the fact behind that. This is definitely the most episodes I have of any TV show. My closest running to this is 269 episodes taken by South Park. I’ll research that and see what I can find. No worries on the english. I understood exactly what you said.

ChuckPA - 1-14 has 314 episodes and 25-27 is an additional 68. Which totals 382 episodes that are already showing properly. The missing 15-24 seasons is 218.

I just tried removing 15-24 again, then deleting the trash (I didn’t know about that) and reloading. Still to no avail.

Ok, I would like you (and anyone following along with this issue) to do the following:

  1. Set the logging level to Debug
  2. Stop PMS
  3. Delete the Plex logs and the logs in the Plug-ins directory
  4. Start PMS
  5. Go directly to “The Simpsons”
  6. Refresh it (left side)
  7. After all activity has stopped (watch just in case it is still pulling down data)… Stop PMS
  8. Collect ALL the logs in a zip file and attach here to your next post.

With that information of the focused cases, I can get it over to the right people to look at and resolve

Hope I am not hijacking the thread, but I have similar issues with personal videos added as tv shows (these use embedded metadata) in the files.

I have them organised by year and I can add the folders one by one in any order and the metadata loads fine until I get to around approx 300 episodes / items, at which point I can longer get the metadata to show. no matter how many times I try refreshing or doing the “plex dance”.

So there does seem to be some sort of limit somewhere.

I guess because I am organising the personal videos as a TV Library it is still using the same logic as regular TV shows.

So from where I sit it looks like its not specific to online matching.

@blim5001

You’re not hijacking the thread if you also have some limit centered around this ‘300’ quantity. If you can replicate failure results with your media using the procedure I outlined above , it will also be very helpful.

The more perspectives we have covered the easier it will be to diagnose finally and resolve.

@ChuckPa I’m with you. BUT not an expert here so I will apologize for that in advance. For Step 1, is that the debug in advance settings? If so, mine is currently set to disabled. Do I need to change it?. Then step 3. I just want to clairify so I don’t screw something up. Sorry for my stupidity, should I delete all logs? Then what in the plug in file?

Thank you for asking. No need to waste time and effort:

Settings - General - Show Advanced

YES (Checked) Enable Plex Media Server debug logging
NO (Not checked) Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging

Delete all files which end with *.log in the main “Logs” and “PMS Plugin Logs” sub directory. ( On window machines, the “.log” is hidden. They appear to you as .1, .2, .3, .4 and of type ‘log’ or a ‘text’ document)

Alright. I hope I did this right. If I messed something up please let me know and I will retry. I have to run and do a few things right now, but will be back online in a few hours. Thanks @ChuckPa for all your help so far. Greatly appreciated!

It didn’t pick up anything. If you look at the logs, It considered the seasons already there and simply deleted them from the list of things to do.

Let’s take this to the next level.

  1. Move “The Simpsons”, in it’s entirety, to some place PMS isn’t looking. We’re going to do the Plex Dance
  2. Update the library, let if finish. Empty the Trash. Clean the Bundles, and let that finish too (disk idle)
  3. At this point the series is ‘gone’. Move The Simpsons back where it belongs.
  4. If PMS sees it and starts scanning immediately, then do nothing. Let it go. If not then Update the Library
  5. When it has finished, Zip up the entire ‘Logs’ directory as one zip.

Don’t interject attempts to play anything while this is happening. We have a finite log queue depth before the info rotates out and is lost.

Only question on this is I see that the bundles clean automatically every so many days. How do I force it to do it on my request?

You should be able to do that from the home screen: hover over libraries and click the three dots

Thanks @blim5001 learn something new everyday. I appreciate it! @ChuckPa here are the latest logs. The problem is now nothing loads for metadata. All gray images. I’ve had this happen before prior to all the extra steps. If I just add the 1-14 then 25-27 it will all load again. I’m about done for the day fighting with it. Gonna go watch it instead. If you see anything please let me know. I’ll probably be back on in a bit because it’s driving me nuts. It shouldn’t be this difficult.

Logs look good to be but I’m not the Dev. I will forward this to them . I’ll hear back if they need more / different.

I do know, when adding so much media, it does take time . I can’t explain it but as a user I know it to be true.

Now the seasons that were fine before aren’t loading. I think I can solve that, but still worth looking into if possible. Thanks again for all your help. You’ve been awesome.
