DSM 7.0-41890 (showing as ‘up to date’, although I know there is a later version 7.0.1)
Just as the title says. Over a month ago I bought a new DS218play and it set itself up with DSM 7 without me really having much decision in the matter. Nevertheless, I was able to install Plex Media Server and set everything up with no difficulties. I didn’t migrate anything, this was a clean, new installation. I have another server on a different Synology NAS running DSM 6 so I had a reasonable idea what to do.
I have been using this new server without any issues for a month, loading it up with media and playing music on my iPhone movies and TV shows on my TV etc. It was working perfectly.
Yesterday I decided I was happy enough with the NAS that I decided to relocate it to the shelf under my desk instead of on it. A move of about three feet. I shut the NAS down manually, unplugged it, moved it and plugged it back in. Five minute job. Synology DSM 7 started up and all my files are accessible.
Now, the Media Server app ‘manually shuts down’ whenever I open an app. It doesn’t matter if it’s my phone or PC or the TV, the server stops running within a few seconds of the app opening. If I restart the server from Synology Package Centre while the app is open, the server stays running and I can use Plex. All my media plays and the metadata is there, just the server stops by itself when I open the apps.
As you might imagine, it’s moderately annoying! I’m sure it’s pretty simple though, as it worked fine until I moved the NAS (which is almost certainly a red herring). This might be the first time the NAS has been shut down since I put it together. Could shutting it down have upset something?!
I have uninstalled Plex from the NAS and reinstalled twice, and that didn’t make any difference. I’ve also restarted the NAS from the Control Panel. I have rescanned all the libraries, and manually optimised the database.
The only change made recently is that a Package Centre app called Universal Search was updated when I restarted the NAS.
