Single Episode refresh not pulling down metadata, have to refresh the whole show

So, I recently noticed that some episodes of numerous shows on my server hadn’t gotten all their metadata when they were initially added. No big deal I think to myself, I’ll just go into those individual episodes and click the Refresh link. PMS spins a little, acts like it’s doing its thing and says that it’s downloading metadata and finishes up. However, nothing changes on the individual episode. Weird I think to myself, so I go up a level and try it for the season. Oh, there is no refresh at the season level. So I have to go up to the Series level and click refresh, then and only then will it pull in the missing metadata.

That is an outstanding feature request. In PMS’s view, a movie is the same as a series. They a ‘items’. The metadata is retrieved as one composite block.

In your Scheduled Tasks, the butler can be set to refresh (go get) metadata every few days and save you this trouble. This way, if you did have any difficulties, the butler will make sure your metadata is up to date when it finishes that task.

I’m just curious then … why even have a “Refresh” link available at the episode level if it isn’t actually going to refresh?

Which ‘Refresh’ (left ride or right side) ?

At the episode level refreshes what is in the database. If there’s nothing new there, nothing will show.
