Skip Ads causes Nvidia Shield [and Amazon FireTV] player to hang

For a many months now, when I click my remote to Skip Ads, the player will hang with the buffering circle going round and round. I have let it sit like this for minutes with no change in status. However if I click Back and then OK to resume the show, the player picks up from where the Skip Ads jumped to. So the ads are being skipped, but the player will not resume playing. This hanging does not occur on my Roku or Amazon FireTV devices. Only my two Shields.

Not just the Nvidia Shield has this issue anymore. My Amazon FireTV started having this issue now.
