With the new addition of a comskip option on recordings, is there also a way to run the commercial skipping feature on previously recorded TV shows? On pretty much all the other platforms, sagetv, mythtv, etc, you could run comskip on any file whenever you felt like it and turn it off as a background process if it started going wonky or using CPU when you needed it for something else at the moment.
I’d love this to be pointed out if I’m missing how to do it, or added if it’s not.
I vote for this too. Kind of how you can batch up optimizations (but give option to delete original when done)
I add another vote! I get 95% of my OTA videos from a remote location running Tablo that has much better reception. I use TabloRipper at the remote site to pull out all of the recordings and place them in OneDrive which I then access locally, move to Plex and delete the files from OneDrive. When I have used comskip with TabloRipper it produces a significantly lower resolution file (there may be a way to change this, but I would still like to remove the commercials locally). It seems logical to offer the option to have any new files added to the Plex TV Shows library to have the commercials removed.
An additional requirement would be to have the option to undo commercial skipping if it detected and “deleted” commercials inaccurately.
For example, in SageTV, I can play back with the comskip option enabled or disabled. There is no post-processing or actual deletion of the original files, just a separate xml file that the player refers to while playing that would inform the player to skip a certain timecode (commercials). It’s a non-destructive comskip solution that requires no re-rendering or transcoding and maintains original file and quality.
