Skip TV Intro not working

Each maintenance cycle does more it seems. Haven’t gotten to tonight’s yet.

I have had it skip one of those Family Guys with the ‘pre-roll’ before the theme, skipping the theme when the button pops up - about 3 seconds before it should.

On Roku, unless Roku INC responds with something other than crickets, this might be the best we can hope for.

We can hope for something more from Plex. Like another Server/Plexweb version 'cause no matter how many times I bash buttons on this thing it shows squat happening - even though it’s happening. It also shows squat happened in the XML, even though it happened, but to see that it happened you have to use the hosted app.

I expect we’ll see more updates very soon 'cause this thing is as buggy as a no-tell-motel mattress.

be my guest.

I’ll let Plex get as close as they can - then probably do what I’ve always done.

If all these resources are in use and the process can’t tell when the music ends - so it can dump you out right there - it needs to go back to engineering for an adjustment, IMO.

I will stipulate to Roku INC issues that may never see a cure, but it’s doing the same thing on everything else ATM as well.

Testing continues. Things may change in the coming days.

They deff are trying their best. I think they rolled out the feature early to us to let us bug test it for them. I’m fine with that as I like to bug test things. Once this feature is really ready it is such an awesome feature to have. Hopefully we can see a skip intro button on shows with recaps and shows with shorter intros because my brooklyn nine nine didnt get detected as an intro though it showed on their website.

I have seen that work.
It’s just not very accurate ATM - and I haven’t tested it on all the devices.
The database is in a shambles, half done, something may be in progress, may not be, can’t tell.

Yea, it’s gonna take some time - and if Plex isn’t famous for getting the cart out in front of the horse, they’re famous for something else notorious - like not listening or using the beta testers they have, opting instead to sign up the entire user base in that role by surprise. Weeeeee…lol

Was the XML you posted earlier from the local Web? If so, that would explain why the line wasn’t there. Skip Intro is not supported in that version of Web so it doesn’t know to provide that line in the XML output. Can you provide the XML using the hosted Web for that episode S18E01?

I did.

They’re stacked on top of one another - for easy access… (I thought)…lol

That’s a different episode. I thought the issue was just that 1 episode from S18.

The issue is all of them. I don’t have any with a Skip Intro Button, and those are few, that dump me out anywhere other than 3 to 5 seconds early.

Those two xmls are from the same episode - top is local - bottom is hosted.

for the record - both of those are S07E11
I had to find one that had been analysed (with the hosted app) and that one won.

Playback should start a few seconds before the end mark just so you don’t miss anything. You mentioned it stopping 10 seconds early, which is definitely not correct.

That XML for S07E11 has the end point at 30.5 seconds, so it should resume somewhere around the 28s mark +/-. Unless it’s the Roku limitation coming into play.

Again, make sure you are using the hosted app. The local app does not support this so it will never show the button.

I don’t play things from the web app.

I use a Player, most often the Roku - and haven’t used much else recently. When I get time I’ll check other players/apps.

@ljunkie has sent up so many flares he’s burned down half the woods between him and Roku INC and yes - there is a varmint in there somewhere…

However - from what I can tell the firetv dumps me out in the same ‘loud’ place as the Roku (in the neighborhood). I can hit THE EXACT PLACE with a 30 second bump perfectly - so unless something changes you guys haven’t done much for me in the Skip Intro feature.

I’m still waiting to see what happens when more of the material is analysed. The process is a complete mystery from the local app and I don’t operate my server from Ireland - so I’m waiting for something to arrive… I guess.

Here’s the issue, for clarity:

Every Plex app I deal with has a 30/10 bump EXCEPT the Roku, due to idiocy inside the building at Roku Headquarters. We can’t do anything about that.

With every other Plex app I don’t need Skip Intro 'cause I can do it perfectly with one (or more) 30 second bumps.

If Skip Intro worked better on the Roku - that would be nice.
That’s all.

Sure, if your intros are exactly multiples of 30s long, the regular forward skip button is still a better choice. Lot’s of shows I have don’t fall into that category.

ALL the shows I skip intos on - have that wonderful attribute.

It’s not very accurate on the Roku, but I can bump by 10 second intervals to get to the first frame of ‘program’ - and not be dumped out in the middle of a blaring wall of trumpets for the big theme song closer.

If you don’t know what I mean - I can’t make it any clearer.

We’re trying to get Roku to get those 10 second bumps - the only bumps I have forward or back - a little closer to 10 seconds. So far. Crickets.

i am also having the exact same issues as OP, and did the same actions as OP (although my server is FreeBSD). i went and downloaded the Windows Desktop Player and was able to produce the Skip Intro option (albeit theres no audio), but i dont need the desktop since i just use Web in the browser (version 4.30.2). wish i knew what magically fixed it for OP, since i signed up for Plex Pass for the first time ever — i have been wanting this option for years.

i know new features sometimes have bugs so i’ll monitor this thread and wait…

You need to use the desktop client or app.plex.tv because the local web app won’t work. It’s just how it is. Use that and then analyze.

thanks!

Thanks for the recipie. When I try that, nothing happens though. No disc usage, no cpu usage, nothing at all. Should PMS indicate that its analyzing?

you need to use Plex Web

and yes it shows it working under the spinning wheel

For you, you mean.

I’ve never seen it do that.
Local or Hosted.

Seems a whole lot of people are in the same boat.

I hear blowers kick in and CPU flatlines on the pin during maintenance, but it’s a complete mystery what’s happening, to what, where, and how much of it’s left, or has been done.

Yea I dont get no spinning wheel. My HDDs seem to spin up for a little while then soon goes back to idle. Doesnt really seem to create any intro-markers.

It may have - but the only way you’ll see 'em is via the hosted app.

I have to stumble onto them blindly - or use the hosted app to search a million of 'em to find some with skip tags - then check on the device - and PITA took over way before reaching the end of that journey.
