Skip TV Intro not working

The title says it. I have the option on my server already for skip intros and its good for a running task and when media is added, and its also enabled in the library settings itself for the tv shows. When I click analyze, nothing happens. I have analyzed before to add the preview thumbnails. I restarted the PC with a full restart and not the windows fast restart thing. I updated the server to the newest version and everything. I just can’t seem to get my server to scan my shows. I also have them organized real neatly with each season in their own folder and all that stuff. I just cant seem to get it to analyze the content again to add the skip intro option. I also have passed the time where my media would scan itself automatically as a task.

Are you doing this at the show level? This only works per season.

I did it per season, per the show level, per the episode level too. Nothing worked

weird…I tried it again and it just magically worked…didnt do anything else but let it sit and now its working

May I ask though, any plans on adding skip intro button to smart tvs? I use an LG tv and I would love the skip intro button

From https://support.plex.tv/articles/skip-content/

We’ll continue working to bring support to additional platforms in the future.

The team is working on it. Don’t know when it will be available, but the idea is to get it on all supported clients.

I got it to work on some things - the thing most needed for us (locally) is the intro skip on Family Guy.

It’s 30 seconds - exactly - they’ve been singing it for 19 years - and Plex came out of the skip at 21 seconds making me wonder why I would even bother hitting that button, when I have to hit some others a few more times to complete it.

It should resume a few seconds before the end, not 9 seconds short. Although, I think on some clients, it may have to stop at a set interval. What client were you using? Can you provide the XML for an episode so I can see how long the intro was detected to be?

The only client I’d need it on - My Roku Ultra UNO.

Roku INC took away the 30/10 skip, as you know, and this would really make up for that… if it worked.

The FireTV has 30/10 and a single bump cures the intro - and I’m fine with that.

I’ve been pretty busy, and that’s not the episode I tested, but that one falls out too soon as well.

That doesn’t show the intro detection, only chapter markers.

Then why does a Skip Intro button appear?

No, I can’t say I’ve ever actually seen any activity in the discovery of intro stuff happening, but nearly all the episodes I’ve checked have no button, but that one and a few others do.

I can’t stop what I’m doing right now to hammer on an analyse button (and have it do squat) - or wait while that happens if it does - so we’ll pick this up later when I have the time.

Perhaps after the NEXT maintenance cycle something different will happen. The last one didn’t do much - apparently.

apparently the intro scan currently only happens

a) automatically during scheduled maintenance period (see server settings)
b) when manually triggered at the SEASON or EPISODE level (not library, not show).

so, being as this feature was just enabled, it may take a while for one’s system to process their shows in the background.

if you really REALLY REALLY want to have everything scanned RIGHT NOW, go to tv library > ALL > SEASONS

select the first season (checkbox top left), scroll to bottom, SHIFT select the LAST season

3 dot menu > analyze

do be warned, this can put a fairly decent load on your server, so if you have a low powered server and/or large library, don’t be surprised.

We’ll see what happens after midnight’s maintenance period.

I’m not doing that right now.

Hah. Nice workaround. I hadn’t thought of that.

Me either, but I will note it for a time when I’m not doing that with something else.

I don’t imagine they’d play well together…

I’ll report back when I can see something has happened…

Something happened - it ain’t good.

Apparently analysis took place at some point for some Family Guys. I only found out when I used the hosted app to look at some XMLs - to see the line wherein an analysis was made - note this one taken from the XML appearing at my local web app shows squat:

My brain got to hurting trying to make sense of that, so I stopped.

Once I was reasonably sure an analysis had been made, I gave one of the episodes in possession of the new line a try - and it dumped me out at about 26-28 seconds.

Close - not sure if it’s cigar worthy.

This is a limitation of the Roku player in firmware. I know we’ve chatted about it before, and I don’t have a better update to provide sadly. The fact is, we ask the Roku firmware to seek to 30 seconds, and it may resume a few seconds before that. Transcoding can also affect that, as HLS segments play a role, but we all know you only direct play

This does remind me to bump this issue with them.

Yea, I wasn’t expecting perfection - even though I wanted it…lol

As much as I loath the current FireTV app - one bump goes directly to the trailing theme remnants, right into the first joke.

It’s such a small thing to want…

appreciate your efforts.

For some reason, I had it scan all my shows last night, it seemed to scan The Simpsons and nothing. Didn’t even show the skip intro button. Also, there are some episodes of Family Guy that have a 10-20 second starting thing before the intro. Those episodes dont work at all with the skip intro button feature.

And with some episodes that show it for The Simpsons, it seems to skip only 36 seconds instead of the full minute for some episodes. (all is done on the plex pc app)
