Skip TV Show Intro setting missing

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2831

Hello Everyone,

I have the latest version of plex running on Ubuntu and have no issues. However, I received an email for us PlexPass users that we now have the feature to skip TV show intros. I went to the website on how to enable it here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/skip-content/

I go to that section in my server settings and “Generate Intro Video Markers” is missing. From what I see it should be there, but it isn’t.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

I’d try clearing your browser cache, perhaps? I had to do that for it to show up.

Also, fwiw, I have a pretty good CPU, but it still appears that the analysis takes quite a long time.

Same here. It’s not a cache issue. I just logged in from a brand new browser on a new device.

I was about to ask the same. I am also missing the option in mention.
PMS Version 1.19.3.2831

Update: I restarted PMS and it’s showing now.

Good call! I figured since the server updated it would automatically show without having to manually restart. I just restarted the server and mine is showing now too.

Apart from the fact that the support article says I should go to Settings -> Server -> Library and there is no Settings -> Server at all, only Settings -> Library. This option is not available for me either.

Nevertheless, top thing that we get the feature.

I just upgraded on Centos 7 to 1.19.3.2831 and found the new option already
enabled. I manually launched the “skip intro” feature by selecting “analyze”
in my TV library, for each of the 6 seasons of “The Wonder Years.” I watched
the status (rotating circle) progress until all 6 seasons were done. But when
I play back an episode on both my Roku and in the webapp, there’s no
“Skip intro” button to be found.

I think they said that it won’t pick up all shows at this moment and they will be gradually adding support for shows. My guess is that it compares the audio to a database to recognize the intro and they will need to be manually added. It may take a while for shows to be added is my best guess.

Is there a list of shows that it is enabled on?

I tested so far on Bobs Burgers and Westworld, after clicking ‘Analyze’ and it wasn’t detected on either. Bob’s Burgers is only 20 seconds, to that may not make the cutoff.

I’m not aware of a list of supported shows as of yet.
Yeah it says 20 seconds or less intros will be ignored.

There is no central database. The detection is done by comparing all your files of a season with each other.

If it doesn’t show on your clients,

  • check you have installed the latest client app software update
  • verify they are signed into an account with an active Plex Pass
  • reboot/restart the client device

Thanks for the clarification on recognition. How will this work for shows where the audio is altered for each episode. eg. Impractical Jokers

For example they highlight all of the jokes in that episode and the audio changes with each episode intro.

My guess is it doesn’t work with that show. Let us know when you have tried.

Is there a way to see that the intro video was generated? I ran ‘Analyze’ on a show, a season and episode itself, but never got the Skip Intro. This directly on the plex player that’s running the PMS agent the option to ‘generate intro’ is on schedule / on add.

I’ve tried the following and haven’t gotten any to work:

Bob’s Burgers
Westworld
Doctor Who
The Grand Tour

I think something is not yet working for me because I even tried Brooklyn 99 which is in their post and that didn’t work. That show only has a 19-20 second intro.

I think no. Are U using a supported Player? (Web Player is not)

The ability to skip detected intros is supported in the following player apps:

Amazon Fire TV (v8.0.1 or newer)
Android mobile (v8.0.1 or newer)
Android TV (v8.0.1 or newer)
Apple TV (v2.18 or newer)
iOS (v6.12 or newer)
Roku (v6.5.4 or newer)
Web (v4.34 or newer)

I’m on the latest PMS beta that has Web Version 4.30.2. When will we have an update on it?

Take a look into the Plex XML info of the episode.
You should see a line (typically after the chapter markers) which looks like
<Marker type="intro" startTimeOffset="266170" endTimeOffset="353910"/>
You might have to modify the URL of the browser window to include the parameter &includeMarkers=1.

Tested with the XML and including the Markers in the URL, and there is nothing that says ‘intro’ in the code. Perhaps it didn’t run the analyze on the content? I am also not seeing anything in the XML for Chapters either.

Edit: Ran a metadata update, and analyze on video files for ‘American Horror Story’ and that doesn’t have anything that includes Marker information when including the & tag.

Brooklyn 99 Season 1 is working for me. (Except episode 1, since it has no intro)
