I apologize… I’ve tried looking through numerous threads and posts to solve my problem, but I’m at a loss. My library scans are running really slow for some reason. Attached is one from my TV Shows library. It’s running at about the same speed as my others. Any ideas on how to speed this up?
I take it things can be impacted by the sheer size of a library at some point.
25k+ episodes is getting somewhat big and will certainly increase certain lookups/checks to the database.
I’m not aware of a fix for that (except maybe splitting your library in a number of sub libraries; nothing I’m usually advocating… but it might be worth a try)
Nope… those look mostly ok.
One hiccup with remote access sometime ago but that seems to have been a one-time hiccup.
Your setup still seems to contain some old plugins (that probably no longer work) and cause some warnings (PBS, Comedy Central) – maybe worth to delete those from C:\Users\capia\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\, but shouldn’t be linked to any performance issues on your end.
You mentioned remote access… I’m running the PMS from my Windows computer with a WD NAS PR4100 attached. Is there a better configuration to have a ‘direct’ access?
I suppose there might be some confusion
“Remote Access” refers to the option to configure Plex so you can access your server from outside your home network (e.g. while away from home or if you want to share access to some of your movies with family & friends).
See Settings > [Server Name] > Remote Access.
This has nothing to do how your server connects to the WD NAS storage.
Ah, OK… so, when it says “Not available outside your Network”, but I can in fact stream media from outside the network, everything is OK? This has nothing to do with library scanning speed?
I appreciate the help. One last question… is there anything I should turn off to help library scanning speed improve? Or anything in the library Agents settings?
For movies, use one sub-folder per movie, particularly when using external subtitles.
Avoid using .plexignore, it does slow-down scans considerably.
When you are creating shares, don’t use e.g. the /media/Movies folder directly, but the folder above it. (in my example, this would be /media. You then point Plex server to the share //qnap_nas/media/Movies. That way, plex can see /Movies as a folder and not as a network file share.)
Thanks, OttoKerner. I do have everything configured correctly on the file structure.
/Movies/MovieName/Movie and art, etc.
Same for TV shows and all other media.
I’m not even sure what .plexignore is, so I’m definitely not using it.
I’ll attach a new log, and it looks like the scans have been running all night. Looking at this, maybe it’s the “Deep Analysis”. How do I turn that off?
It appears you have caught it while it is doing the server maintenance.
If you are using your Plex server regularly during this time (5:00 in the morning?), consider moving the time window for maintenance to somewhere else.
No luck… it’s super slow on any movies and videos, but flies through music. Attached are some new logs in case there is something I’m missing. Otherwise, I’ll guess I’ll just let the scanner run 24/7, stopping it when I add to new libraries other than movies and videos.
Starting library scans too often makes no sense and will have the opposite effect.
Make sure you are not triggering library updates too often. If you have set them to 15 minutes or so, set them to 24 hours or something similar.
Thereby giving it enough time to actually finish a scan before the next scan is triggered.
Do also not trigger a library scan of the whole server, but only a particular library.
Please drag the whole ZIP file in here, instead of every log file separately.
I changed it to once a day, and also turned off “Perform extensive media analysis during maintenance”. Maybe that will help. I’ll attach a zip file if this doesn’t fix the issue. (The last time I tried to zip the %locallappdata in Plex Media Server it said it was going to take 21 hours.
