Slow video playback but audio is fine

Server Version#: 1.32.2.7100
Player Version#: 1.69.1.3755-e00242c8

Im having an issue with video playback that only seems to be occurring in the windows app (using Windows 11). Watching content through the web browser or a TV app is perfectly fine so im assuming its not a hardware issue (AMD 7950x w/ 32Gb DDR5). Its not necessarily buffering, but the video playback is choppy and lagging behind the audio. Its as if the video were being played at a slower frame rate.

Not what I thought

This is happening with all files. but like i said, its only in the windows app. All other plex apps work perfectly. Ive already tried uninstalling and re-installing the windows app.

Play with the “video quality” and “hardware decoding” settings in the preferences of the player.

Looks like i had the Video Playback Quality under “Make my GPU hurt”. I lowered it to Maximum quality and everything is fine now. weird how that only affect the windows app and not every other app.

The player is unique in this respect. The highest settings require a pretty beefy GPU, because they are invoking some computationally expensive filtering algorithms. Not every computer can execute these fast enough.
See Video Playback Quality Options - #2 by gbooker02 for details.
