On the early release version, on both my vizio smart cast enabled displays, I could only view remote servers, my local server showed as unavailable while remote users could access my Plex server without an issue. This is reproducible by simply switching to early release.
It possible the app is unable to connect to your server securely. Check the app settings for the the option to allow using an insecure connection.
I just logged into Plex after a substantial absence, I opted in for the early access. It did not show my local server media. It too a LONG time to finally dig into the menus and find where to check local server - it initially indicated my server (running on Linux, Fedora Server Edition) was offline. Checking from a web browser on another PC showed the server was running, and that the Vizio had in fact recently connected. Going back to the early access app on Vizio, and again digging down to find the server it now showed, “nearby” – which I presume meant online. But from the home menu in the App I could not find any of my media.
I guess I understand there are commercial reasons for prioritizing online sources (which are revenue for someone), but hiding my local sources just sent me back to the current version – and my media was immediately available.
Can someone tell me how to get my local sources to show?
Our latest update (5.2.1) now defaults to allowing insecure connections on the local network. If this update doesn’t fix the issue automatically, try going to Settings->Advanced
and changing Allow Insecure Connections
to On same network as server
. You can see also see the client version in the About
section of settings if you want to verify your on the correct version.
