Smart collection confusion

Ok not sure if I put this in the right spot to begin with so sorry if it’s not.

I have a Ubuntu ran server and am slightly confused about smart collections I might just be miss understanding how the work.

I made one for the arrowverse that has all of the shows in episode order and it looks great. My problem is when I click on a episode on my Apple TV iPhone or a vizio smart tv apps it takes me to the season I found a way around that by pushing and holding on the episode in the list and I can select play which is all fine and good because clicking the play at the top starts at the beginning and not where the next not watched video is at but the on deck just wants to keep playing the show season it’s in instead of the next episode in the smart collection also the the continue watching is the separate seasons and not just the arrowverse collection.

The way everyone in different forms was talking about and making these I though it would just show up in the continue watching and on deck as a big playlist type that would have the next episode in its order ready to go that is also shared across everyone I share my server with.

Do I just have a setting off or is this not the way it works? If not then is there a way to make a playlist that will work this way that would show up in my TV show tab and show like the collections with the people I share with?

Also every app and the sever is up to date with most current non beta versions and I have been using plex for years but just recently need to start using smart collections for tv shows to try to do this.

Make a playlist, not a collection. Watch crossover episodes of several series in-order

Concur as a bandaid solution, I have raised these quirks/bugs with smart collections including their playback behavior some of which have been acknowledged but with no fix. Ideally, a smart collection should be a playlist on steroids, meaning their playback behavior etc should be similar.

That’s exactly what I was expecting it to be a playlist that was on steroids! Like it’s a solid feature it just needs a little help to handle the way that it plays the videos better and puts videos on deck and the continue watching could be just the collection instead of every season in the collection separately.

The problem I have with the playlist unless I’m missing a setting is it’s not shared. So everyone has to make their own playlist to watch this and it’s not in the tv shows tab in order all nice and neat you have to go to the playlist tab and in the player app (at least on the Apple TV) you can’t make a playlist so some of the less techy people I’ll have to talk through going through the website and each one making their own playlist.

You can grant access to other users for playlists, solution works but isn’t elegant as smart collections.
