'Smart' Playlists and multiple criteria

So I found a post that helped me figure out how to create a ‘Smart’ Playlist using filters. For example, I created one for songs rated with 5 stars. What I’d like to do is create a playlist with multiple criteria, e.g. all songs rated with 5 stars that have the genre ‘alternative’, or all songs rated 5 stars that DON’T have the genre ‘alternative’.

Thanks in advance.

You can’t really do that for several reasons, all of which are the subject of very popular feature requests:

  1. Ratings are only filterable at the Track level, but Genre can only be filtered at Album or Artist level, so those particular filters can’t be applied together (oddly, you can apply ratings to Albums, but you can’t filter albums by rating).
  2. Plex currently only combines filters in an OR fashion. This means that, even if you could select Rating and Genre together, you wouldn’t get songs with 5 stars and ‘alternative’ genre - you’d get songs with 5 stars or ‘alternative’ genre.
  3. There is no way to say “don’t have the genre ‘alternative.’” Plex only allows positive filters.

Like I said, there are outstanding feature requests to correct all of the above, but we have no idea if or when Plex will implement any of them.

Well that stinks. I suppose for a ‘positive’ way to exclude a genre, I could just choose all the others and leave that one unchecked. Would definitely be nice to have consistency across artist/album/tracks for filtering.
