SO how does one preserve XMLTV only metadata

I’ve read the news announcement, server release notes and now found out in my own testing, when recorindg with DRV and using my own XMLTV , the data is not preserved in the library - even if enhanced guide is turned off.

So how does one preserve XMLTV data with the recordings ? It seems like a basic thing but i failed.

When i set my library agent to:
1, Personal Media shows - no metadata is preserved at all - not even the airing date.
2, When i set up theTVdb agent - it replaces XMLTV guide data with thetvDB.

Any time you add media to a library that is tagged for TV, Plex will scan the media and pull metadata from an agent. If you don’t want to do this, then record to a generic “other videos” library.

That being said, what is different with the xmltv data and the tvdb data? The two should match pretty closely. Does on my end.

The DVR recently began preserving EPG metadata for all recordings (previously it only did so for news and sports); however, XMLTV movies and TV shows are specifically excluded from this. This is from the release notes for PMS 1.18.8.2461:

(DVR) Preserve EPG metadata when assimilating all recordings except XMLTV Movies & Shows. (#10972)

I’m not sure why the exception exists but it means, for the time being, the only way to get metadata for XMLTV movies and shows is via an agent (as far as I know).

In my case XMLTV and tvDB in my country have completely different descriptions. I made 3 recordings - 2 TV episodes have completely different descriptions + 1 Movie was missing description in the library while XMLTV / EPG in Plex showed the description.

I worked hard to customize my XMLTV because Plex removed guide provider for my country and now Plex removes and alters the data in my recordings because … why exactly ?

.“…then record to a generic “other videos” library”

As mentioned, i did. But Plex then removes ALL metadata from the recordings - thus not preserving XMLTV data at all.

I just found out by crawling the forums that Sports and News in TV Shows category are not scraper thru theTVDB. I might have to massage the xmltv file with yet another script to make DVR work properly :frowning: or just go with Channels and cut my loses.

Thanks for your help though - i was going mad thinking i must be doing something right , this is too basic

I read that wrong when i read it first time, hence the reason i gave Plex DVR another go after 1 year hiatus. I thought it was the other way around (XMLTV was kept as is and Plex EPG was enhanced)

Now, i’ve spent a week working out scripts grabbing, formatting and enriching the XMLTV for my lineup only to find out Plex will randomly remove/alter my data.
To be honest, it makes zero sense. User has to provide the data to Plex DVR to even make it work, yet Plex removes it once its recorded , huh ?

Any idea what agent WOULD keep the XMLTV info as-is for movie or tv shows sections ? ( never written one)

I looked at post processing scripts - was thinking of extracting some data and using personal media scraper/agent but it seems Plex will only pass %1 (file name) - nothing else :frowning:

Unfortunately, no.

What if you change the agent to personal media?

then there is no metadata, period ( no tvdb and no xmltv )
