Where does Plex get titles, summaries, etc. for recorded TV content? I have several NFL games that were given complete and accurate metadata when Plex initially recorded and added them to my library. However, I happened to rescan my library files, and all of that information disappeared. I searched the usual suspects--thetvdb.org and themoviedb.org–to see if I could find and manually repopulate the data, but neither of them have NFL games. Where did the NFL TV data come from initially, and is it possible to get it back or point Plex to where it can rescrape it?

It is gotten from the EPG which is provided by Gracenote. It can only get it from the during the initial recording AFAIK.

If you put your recorded tv content into a Plex library which has one of the regular metadata agents applied to it

then there is always the danger that the metadata of this agent can override the original metadata from the EPG later on. For instance when you trigger Refresh Metadata or change some agent setting of the library or of the show.

I therefore created a separate library for my DVR’d content with the “Personal Media” agent, to prevent that from happening.

Thanks for the responses. It seems that those summaries are irrecoverable then… That’s good to know for the future. I’ve changed my library settings as @OttoKerner suggested to prevent it from happening again.
