EPG metadata is now retained for DVR recordings
Beginning with Plex Media Server v1.18.8, we will no longer auto-match completed recordings using external metadata sources such as TheTVDB and instead, the metadata from the EPG data will be preserved.
Recordings for users of XMLTV guide data will continue to be auto-matched at the end of recordings based on the library agent settings, except for Sports and News.
The change in 1.18.8 to remove the matching at the end of recordings is intended to reduce the impact of differences between EPG data and metadata on services, such as TheTVDB. Mismatches in episode/season numbers would lead to the metadata being changed for the recording and could result in unexpected repeat recordings being made or even lost recordings.
The full benefit of this change will be realized when using dedicated libraries for DVR recordings, separate from any normal Plex Media Server TV or Movies library. Any manual adjustments to metadata within the dedicated libraries could bring back the risk of lost recordings or repeat recordings.
Update: Any existing shows that were previously matched to theTVDB would currently continue to do so. Forcing an unmatch or switching to a new dedicated recording libraries would get round the problem.
