Software update

Ok new interesting issue. I tried to update software and got this message. Something I need to do? never saw this before!

What version # are you trying to update from?

Version 1.13.4.5251 It showed there is a new update, when it goes to install that is the message I get

Version 1.13.4.5251 It said there was an update and I get the message after it downloads and has created backup

Going to guess something about that file is corrupted. Should probably just download current version from downloads page and manually update https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ just quit server and replace it in Applications folder.

Well crap, I shutdown plex and then the computer, when I rebooted plex server would not launch. So I went ahead and did the download of the new version, and it still won’t launch. So now what? Damn this is getting frustrating as of late.

Well now plex server won’t do anything

It is not in the menu bar at all?

It won’t start, click on it and nothing. The web app says can’t find server. I have no idea. It wouldn’t start I downloaded the version on the site and still nothing,

Is it creating a new log at all? They would be in ~/Library/application support/logs/plex media Server

Can you go into ~/Library/application support/ and move ( don’t delete) com.apple.Preferences.plist to the desktop or somewhere then try to start the server up again.

I don’t have any folder called Logs under ~/Library/application support and I don’t see a file - com.apple.Preferences.plist either.

I’m sorry Log is in ~/Library/logs/plex media server
plist file is in ~/Library/preferences

but i just realized that since you updated manually i wonder if one of the update files is bad an it is trying to still apply itself. you can find all the update files in location below. so try to delete (or move to desktop) those first

I deleted the update files but there were all dated back in March. I don’t have a Folder for Plex media Server in ~/Library/logs only one for plexamp

I did putt out the com.apple.preferences.plist but still it won’t open

Kelvin

Sorry i dunno why am so full of typos today

the files is com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist put that apple one back

logs should be in
MediaMini

OK deleted the plist one. but as you can see I don’t have a plex media server under logs

You don’t need to delete it. if still in trash folder move it to desktop.

That is super weird there is no log files. this was working the other day I assume, so even old ones should be there.

do you have more than one user account on that computer?

Still nothing. Sorry just frustrated, this hasn’t been easy and I don’t know that much tech stuff so it makes it hard. Used to programs that you plug and play, and call customer service when they don’t work. LOL

Understandable and no need to apologize to me.

Sounds like this is a permissions issue like the app is not allowed to write to folders but I can’t think of why that would be the case.

I just moved it to desktop sorry. I only have one user on this computer my laptop. I did try to download plex onto my desktop mac as well and it also seems like it won’t install. Files seem to be there, but I try to open and nothing…

Can you right/control+click on the PMS.app and choose “open” from menu. macOS trys to help prevent random app from opening as a safety feature so accidentally downloaded shady apps can’t open themselves. When you choose open form menu it should ask you if with a window to deny or open. If deny was accidentally selected before it might be what is preventing it from launching
