For many months I have had the issue where posters I once had went missing. Sometimes I could select another, and sometimes not. Often the films without them were just left with blank posters. Now, Plex did a fine job of matching the films and the other Metadata was correct, just a blank poster.
Yesterday I noticed a small percentage of my films had what appeared to be correct posters, but in a different language. Alright, time to investigate.
So, what I found out was that at some time in the past Plex did a “Metadata Update” for the database and must have grabbed incorrect data for region or some such. Once I did the following to each film with a blank poster, all was well with my collection.
Step 1: Select the Film with a Blank Poster and select “Refresh Metadata”. This will download the correct information AND POSTERS for this film.
Step 2: Reselect the Poster you want. Some of the times you will be set to a NULL poster and nothing will show.
Step 3: Opening the Web version of Plex. go to settings and Clean Bundles, Optimize Database and then Empty Trash (if you don’t know how to do these - look them up).
Everything should be as it should be.
