[Solved] ALL movies no longer play after update to PMS v1.15.3.835 (s1001 error)

Same problem here TV & Music fine, movies won’t play on any app since upgrading to 835 & 858.

If I remove the movie library and re add, it seems to work for a short period of time but then returns to not playing any movie. Will try downgrading to 793 as some suggest above.

Happened to me too, on ubuntu server. I downgraded to 1.14 and it worked correctly

What is with the absolute DISDAIN that Plex has for it’s customers? Really bizarre business model.

Yeah… this is the worst fuckup I’ve ever experienced with the Plex server in 2 years using it. I was a big critic of the UI change to the app that allows 3rd party media options. The old layout was perfect for managing libraries. We do pay for this, and it would be nice if the Plex support people would have a look at this thread and talk to their paying customers. Am I wrong in thinking these forums are our only support option provided by Plex?

Just arrogant developers sitting in their ivory tower, too self-important to communicate with the people who pay for that tower of theirs. Infuriating. I posted comments linking to this thread on today’s blog post and they were immediately removed.

I honestly don’t know how they put up with their customer base. Some of the users of this forum are the most toxic self entitled people I’ve ever seen. Things break, it’s complicated software, don’t update so quickly if you’re worried about it. There’s a very simple workaround to making this work, just go back to the public release. I mean seriously yeah you’re a paying customer, but what $3-4 a month or $75-150 for lifetime. You’ve gotten your use out of plex and they have more then delivered a great product to you. Act like a decent human being and have a little patience.

I’m having the same issue with my docker on my unraid, anyone know how to downgrade? I’d truly appreciate it.

Which docker?

For linuxserver/plex I checked https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/plex/tags and chose a different one. So under Version i set it to “1.15.2.793-782228f99-ls13”, also set the version in plex under general to public not plexpass.

Thanks. mine is public as I don’t have plex pass. My docker is PlexMediaServer by limetech.

I think I’m being quite reasonable in asking that there is some kind of support option besides a user forum. Obviously things break… bugs are a part if software. However, a lot of people have cited this issue and still no response. The problem is that the issue basically breaks the software. If it was a minor issue I think patience would be higher.

Yeah i concur yours wasn’t as bad as the other guys, so I apologize for lumping them together. It’s just every time there is an issue with Plex some people loose their minds and act like it’s a personal slight against them and it’s the greatest travesty in human history that their questionably obtained movie won’t play right on $3 or free software.

What version are you running? If you go to settings->general in plex. Is it 1.15.2.793 or 1.15.3.835? That docker is based off needos which if I remember correctly a few of those unraid dockers were circumventing plex’s download feed and installing the plexpass version when users weren’t entitled to it. I may be wrong that it was needo or that it’s even still possible, but there was an issue at some point.

If you’re running .793 I don’t believe anyone has said there’s an issue with that and it seems to work for me. Unfortunately I can’t tell you how to downgrade that docker because I don’t see anything to set on https://hub.docker.com/r/limetech/plex/dockerfile. Personally I would be using linuxserver’s docker but I know that might be a pain to do depending on library size. You can move/copy the library and then install linuxserver over the top and it will probably work but make sure you have a backup.

Edit: Wait in settings general do you have it set to beta? 835 was pushed as beta 3 days ago to beta regular users.

Yes, I do understand what you are saying. Thanks for responding.

I am running 1.15.2.793, I am not setup for beta. I’ve had 2 people tell me they can’t connect to my movies, tv shows play ok. Nothing has changed except I clicked update and boom no access to movies. If I use linuxserver docker, can’t I just point to the same directories for the libraries?

Oh, I’m toxic and self-entitled for expecting an iota of communication?

All they needed to say was “we’re aware of the issue, we’re sorry for the inconvenience, we’re working on a fix and we’ll keep you in the loop. In the meantime, please roll back to version x.” If you think expecting that kind of communication is toxic or self-entitled then I don’t know what to tell you… you and I have extremely different standards for customer service.

Seriously, it’s a fact that if someone from Plex had popped in and given that response, or similar, that most of this thread and the frustration contained within it would simply not exist.

It is completely natural that when customers are paying for a service (yes, even $5 a month) and those customers report an issue that is so major that it completely breaks the core functionality of that service, that when they report that issue and are completely ignored for weeks, that they’re going to get frustrated.

Noone started out being this frustrated. People were just unemotionally reporting the issue. But of course that frustration builds and builds when they haven’t even been acknowledged.

It’s not a personal slight that the software breaks sometimes, it’s a personal slight when they completely ignore us when we tell them it’s broken.

Again, if you think that frustration is toxic or self-entitled, then you and I have really different standards for customer service.

Hi!

Any news on this? Just tried for over an hour to fix this by reinstalling my app, changing settings, clearing the caches and restarting everything over and over again, until I finally looked here since I was pretty sure it’s not my fault. And now I see that none of the developers even cares to say anything about this? Is this a joke? I’m in software QA and I have seen some serious ■■■■, but ignoring a problem like this is what causes me to question my decision to use Plex in the first place and even pay money for it (had a Plex Pass several times and bought the app on several platforms).

I had this same problem. I found that the issue was an invalid pre-roll video path set under extras. I removed it and everything works normally now.

Can you give directions on how to remove it? It would be much appreciated. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ok nevermind I see what you mean. However did you have it set to play movies trailors before movies?

My server had all types of trailers selected but none of my players have used them for a while. I had a little video run before movies which was set there. When I set it up years ago, the pre-roll trailer used that “/library/metadata/…” path but at some point they changed things to an absolute path. Apparently, the server is trying to play something it can’t find and when it can’t find whatever it is, it just gives up.
