Server Version#: 1.15.3.876
Update to PMS is out, but no change log.
Movie playback still broke too.
Folks not giving us server logs either . Users still broken too
Hey Chuck,
Is what you need a server log from. a broken server install? If so you might want to visit the larger thread on this issue. One user believes absolute paths might be causing the issue. As removing the pre roll video path from settings-extras fixed it for them.
Until I see something, all I can do is smile and
I need some kind of information. (any of the following which shows errors)
Any of the 3 will help.
I can’t even determine if this is a pre-roll problem or not until I see why the playback fails.
See my point?
a) Preroll fail (shouldn’t be fatal)
b) Can’t open video file ?
c) Can’t find codec ?
d) Insufficient space to transcode ?
There is so much which could go wrong, all of it easy to fix. I just need to see what instructions to give
A post was split to a new topic: Synology - Port in use when installing
Hi Chuck, I installed .836 and with no data in the preroll option movies now play. Remember that this issue only seems to affect the playback of movies ( no other media seems affected). I was trying to get you a log file with data for review however it seems fixed now for me at least.
If Engineering beat us to the punch line, let’s not look a gifted horse in the mouth
I have posted screen shots on 2 other posts. I can get logs but may not be until Sunday. Laptop is packed for work so I can’t get to server. If you wanna try playback PM me an email an I’ll invite you to see it.
Confirmed. It is most definitely a broken preroll. I emptied the url from the box as shown in attached screen shot and playback is once again working.
We can thank the untested immaturity of the Rick roll for this breakage.
@ChuckPa Sadly I can confirm that movie playback issues detailed in the linked threads continue in v1.15.3.876. Here’s how I have things configured:
I’ve gotta say, this is really a shame – I have used these exact settings for several months without issue until upgrading to PMS v1.15.3.835, and I have no clue as to why the pre-roll URL suddenly stopped working.
In the thread linked above, my speculation is a switch from relative paths for the pre-roll videos to requiring absoolute paths in the newer releases. Am I on the right track? If so, and if the URL I used before isn’t an absolute path, what should I use instead?
I have also attached the PMS Log ZIP captured just after reproducing the error, per your request. Of course, let me know if there is anything else you need; I’m happy to help.

Having the same issues with movie playback even after installing .876. TV shows play fine but movies fail on apple tv and amazon firestick, both on the my local network and over internet. The preroll plays fine but it hangs when it trys to start the movie, sometimes jumping back and playing las 3 or 4 secs of the pre roll a few times before give ‘something went wrong’ error. I have removed pre roll now and it’s still the same.
After some investigation, I found that on my apple tv if I go into settings and change the video quality from maximum to 4mbps 720p movies start to play ok. This is an acceptable work around so I can actually watch movies but why have a 4k tv if I can’t get the full use!
Plex please fix this issue.
strange, no problems here (on fire TV stick 2nd gen).
Anybody else have increased CPU usage after updating to this version? I have a Synology DS218+. HW transcoding is working for video but audio is not and it is using OPUS. Or did I dream that HW transcoding for audio was being used with the previous update(s)?. CPU usage is around 35-40%
Fair enough. My pal told me the same… Like I said I must have been dreaming. Just seems like the CPU usage has gone up but still usable for sure… Just wanted to know if anyone else experience the same.
I have not seen increased CPU usage compared to previous PMS versions. You were absolutely dreaming – as others have said, H/W transcode is not used for audio. Hopefully it wasn’t a nightmare! ![]()
HW transcoding isn’t used for subtitles either.
Let the nightmare begin
Maybe it should use HW when plex accidentally burns in subs?
Edit: How goes the investigation into pre-roll issues @ChuckPa?
Frankly? NO idea where it’s at
When we manually go into the pre-roll, type something, then clear it, — everything seems fine.
The whole April Fool’s joke broke something.
Best thing to do is uninstall the package, Re-install the previous SPK (assuming you kept it??)
Your data is safe. If the DB got damaged @trumpy81 has some good recovery steps for Synology.
