[ Solved] Cant connect shared storage plugged into router

Here is what I trying to do, I have plex server running on a shield pro and I want to add a media source thats on a flash drive plugged into my router (its shared fine and everything other device sees it as network available)

I this application I am traveling and it is the only media source available to the media server, but I cant find any way to connect it…

There is no way to name or configure the actual server running on the plex that i can find… am I missing something obvious???

Mount the storage on the Shield.

Shield settings > Device Preferences > Storage > Mount network storage

Then add the mount point / path to the Plex library.

Hi

I have the network storage mounted and I can access the network drive
using my laptop easily but its not showing up in plex…

I cant even see the server, loading the settings in the plex app on the shield
i see the section for plex media server but there is no server listed there
its like its not installed. I expect to see an icon for the server letting me turn it on and off, but nothing

everything im using is on the same wifi network

I can easily access the thumb drive from my laptop to transfer media to it via the wireless connection, but as far as plex is concerned it seems it doesnt exist, and neither does the server.

It has been previously been there and available to turn off and on and I have even gone so far as deleting the plex app and server app from the shield and reinstalling them both. When I did I had a server showing up under plex media server in settings, and thats when I made the first post, but now its right back where it was… no server listed.

After mounting the network storage on the Shield, you will need to add the path to a Plex Media Server library.

Regarding PMS not appearing in the Plex client settings, many people have reported that problem. I’ve not seen a conclusive way to fix the problem. Most people try uninstalling / re-installing the Plex Media Server (not Plex client) app on the Shield and/or restarting the Shield.

hi

apologies for the slow reply (life)

if you mean manually add it in the “mount a network drive manually” area of the shield settings…

thats a bit impossible… because the virtual keyboard doesnt have a \ symbol on it

I can add a samba addy in this format, that it doesnt recognize (there is a / symbol)
smb://a.b.c.d/sharename

however adding it in a windows format (Im assuming) is the one it wants since it didnt take samba format is a bit difficult

since there is NO \ key on the keyboard…
I cant tell you how pissed off I was when I saw that

how do you add that?
\a.b.c.d\sharename\ (its not showing the first slash for whatever reason, Im a bit beyond caring why…lol)

If it is not listed under Available Network Storage, then manually enter the IP address. It should then ask to connect as a registered user or guest. If registered user, you’ll have to enter a username & password. That will mount the device on the Shield.

Then, go into Plex Media Server using Plex Web, add or edit a library, select add a folder, then navigate to the desired location - the same way you would if running PMS on Windows/Mac/Linux.

For lost PMS Settings on Shield try this:

For Configuration you PMS on Shield go to:
https://app.plex.tv/
or install the Plex Player App for Windows and open the Settings Menu.
https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/?cat=plex+desktop&plat=windows#plex-app
There you should be see you Shield and you can do many settings for it.

And now add Network HDD or Stick:

  1. Select Settings > Device Preferences > Storage > Network storage.
  2. Any network discoverable drives will be located under “Available Network Storage.”
  3. If your NAS is hidden or does not broadcast, you can select “manually add a network storage.”

And use a USB Keyboard on your Shield.
Also you can use the Keyboard with Shield TV App

if you wouldnt mind exactly what format should it be in added when using the ip addy?

as http <— not a valid format
as https <— not a valid format
as //a.b.c.d (imagine 2 slashes there since this removes one)
no other format is available since there is NO \ on the keyboard

btw the router the drive is plugged into is listed under my network storage (it mounts every time) … however

the available network storage section its constantly searching and never finding… with the looking for network storage icon just spinning away

The IP address. ex: 192.168.1.1

No http, etc.

I managed to get it working… I had ordered a bluetooth keyboard
so I could enter a \ I dont know what the hell google was thinking leaving that off
anyway the light finally went on and I downloaded a keyboard replacement

once I could actually add the path in a format that was windows based I was able to manually add the server and was able to add the path for the thumb drive…

thank you very much for your help with this

But I told you, you can also use the Keyboard from Nvidia App.
It has a " \ ", too.
