I believe I have resolved this issue, but am posting in hopes that it will help someone else. After 18 months of solid and reliable Plex DVR recording, earlier this week my Plex DVR began getting intermittent recording failures with a “Transcoder Error” almost immediately after the recording was to have started. I determined that failures were happening when there were two consecutive recordings scheduled on the same channel. The first item scheduled would record, and the second would fail.
I found and deleted all of the codecs Plex had downloaded, rebooted (likely a Plex restart would have been sufficient), and have had numerous successful consecutive recordings over the past several days so I am beginning to feel confident in the DVR again. I can see that Plex has redownloaded many of the codecs.
An excerpt of my logs from one of the failures is below for comparison if you are having this problem. The codecs are stored under the Plex data directory (see this link if you don’t know where that is), in the “Codecs” directory. In “Codecs” is a directory that for me was named with a uniqueidentifier-OS-processorclass name. I (backed up and then) deleted all files that were in this uniqueidentifier-OS-processorclass directory, followed by a reboot.
