[SOLVED] Fixing episode length of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah requires service restart

Plex Media Server: 1.21.1.3876
DVR—Verizon FiOS Burlington Digital (Massachusetts) - (New Jan 2021 DVR)
Channel 190/690 (Comedy Central)

Greetings. On Monday of this week, all of the episodes of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airing at 11:00 PM EST on channels 190/690 this week had the incorrect episode length: 30 minutes. By Tuesday of this week, the EPG for all the episodes had been corrected to have the correct episode length: 45 minutes. As of Thursdayf this week, all of the episodes of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airing at 11:00 PM EST next week have the incorrect episode length again: 30 minutes.

For next week, it appears that the EPG has a new episode at 11:00 PM EST for 30 minutes (incorrect length), and another airing of the new episode at 11:30 PM EST for 45 minutes (correct length), but that listing for the second airing is not accurate.

This issue is very inconvenient, as I am constantly adding and removing 15 minutes of padding to the scheduled recording to ensure I get the entire episode recorded, so that I do not miss the final 15 minutes of the episode. I have already filled out a request in the Plex EPG Lineup Inaccuracies form, but I fell this issue may require an additional investigation.

Interesting… I’m also on Verizon FIOS (Nyack) and the guide info for The Daily Show has been accurate all of this week, but the data for next week matches what you have reported.

When I checked the schedule Monday morning, the times were still wrong, so I padded the recording by 15 minutes. By the time I checked the schedule Tuesday morning, the times had been corrected, and I removed the 15 minute padding. Now that the new episodes are done for the week, I am adding back the 15 minute padding for next week’s shows so that I don’t forget.

As of today (Jan 29), the episode length for the airings during the week of February 1 and the week of February 8 is incorrectly set for 30 minutes.

As of a few minutes ago the guide has corrected itself, and all five episodes this week show as 44 minutes long. Next week’s episodes are still listed as 30 minutes long.

Given the guide data issues I has with Comedy Central shows when I was a TiVo user, I’m quite tempted to just blame this on Comedy Central.

As of 7 AM EST on Feb 1, My EPG was still showing 30 minutes episode lengths for both the week of Feb 1 and the week of Feb 8.

I ran a manual EPG refresh, and the 30 minutes episode lengths is still present.

Yowza, so FIOS Burlington is incorrect and FIOS Nyack is correct.

As of 7 AM EST on Feb 2, My EPG is now showing 45 minutes episode lengths for the week of Feb 1 but still 30 minutes episode lengths for the week of Feb 8.

As of 7 PM EST on Feb 8, My EPG was still showing 30 minutes episode lengths for both the week of Feb 8 and the week of Feb 15.

I ran a manual EPG refresh, and the 30 minutes episode lengths is still present.

Yep, mine too, last night’s episode was cut off as a result. Grr.

As of 7 AM EST on Feb 9, My EPG was still showing 30 minutes episode lengths for both the week of Feb 8 and the week of Feb 15.

Thinking back to last week when the issue resolved itself, I realized that I upgraded PMS after I tried to correct the episode length through a manual EPG refresh.

It was after I upgraded PMS that I found that the episode length was correct. I had assumed that it was because the manual EPG refresh took a long time to input the correct data, but today I wondered if it was because the PMS service was restarted.

After finding the incorrect episode length this morning (Feb 9), I manually stopped and started the PMS service. Immediately after the service restart, the episode lengths for this week had been corrected to 45 minutes, while the episode lengths for next week are still incorrect at 30 minutes.

Over the next week, I am going to restart the PMS service on a daily basis, and see what the cut off is for correcting the next week’s episode length.

Partially confirmed; I restarted (but also updated to the latest version) and the episode lengths are now correct. Nice find

Adding log bundle (4.8 MB) . I cannot determine why the service restart on February 9 fixed the the issue while the daily EPG refreshes on the previous days did not.

I restarted the Plex Media Server service on the morning of February 11. This corrected the episode lengths for the shows on the week of February 15 (now 45 minutes), but not the week of February 22 (still 30 minutes).

Changing post tile from:

Original airing of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah at 11:00 PM EST has incorrect episode length

to

Fixing episode length of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah requires service restart

Slightly different behavior this week.

I restarted the Plex Media Server service on the morning of Wednesday, February 17. This did not correct the episode lengths for the shows on the week of February 22 (still 30 minutes).

I restarted the Plex Media Server service on the morning of Thursday, February 18. This did not correct the episode lengths for the shows on the week of February 22 (still 30 minutes).

Power outage caused the Plex Media Server to reboot around 11 PM on the night of Thursday, February 18. This corrected the episode lengths for the shows on the week of February 22 (now 45 minutes), but not the week of March 1 (still 30 minutes).

So a service restart of some time on Thursday (not always Thursday morning though) seems to be the sweet spot of fixing the EPG.

I restarted the Plex Media Server service on the morning of Friday, February 26. This corrected the episode lengths for the shows on the week of March 1 (now 45 minutes). There are no episodes set to air on the week of March 8.

I have also upgraded tp PMS 1.21.4.4079. I am hoping that the fix implemented for the Butler service resolves the problem. Should be able to tell once the Daily Show returns later in March.

It appears that this issue has been resolved in Plex Media Server 1.21.4.4079. I am guessing that the issue was being caused by the Butler service. Although there are no new episodes scheduled for the current week, all episodes listed for next week appear to have the correct episode length.
