[Solved] Local subtitles not working - I installed Plex from the LG app store as told

Hey guys

New to Plex, trying to make the subtitles work on three LG smart TVs with no luck on either of them, I could use some help please, thank you.

Versions:
Plex 1.15.2.793-282228f99 http://prntscr.com/n1wbms
Tv - I will just add one, but I tried with all of them - LG 43UK6200PLA
Windows 10 latest updates.
K-lite latest version codec pack installed - not sure if it helps or not

Settings:
Agents - All Local Media Assets are selected and moved to top like this: http://prntscr.com/n1wcs9
Languages - http://prntscr.com/n1wd1c

Subtitles are in multiple languages, because we like to practice our language skills. Each movie has ONE subtitle file only, either English, German, French or my native language.

File names look like this, no special characters: http://prntscr.com/n1we5d or http://prntscr.com/n1webj
I also added eng.srt or eng.forced.srt to the filenames to test the outcome, it doesn’t work either.

I followed this guide https://support.plex.tv/articles/200471133-adding-local-subtitles-to-your-media/?_ga=2.153484344.103602138.1553294727-1532463184.1553294727 and I also read several other topics around this subject. I just can’t make them work.

I refreshed all kind of things, I did two clean installs, I tried meddling with settings yet I just can’t make them work.

Any ideas? Thank you

Edit your library,
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
and make sure that there is only one entry in there, which points to exactly f:\Media Share\Seriale and not to f:\Media Share\Seriale\Endeavour

Use always 2-digit numbers for both season and episode numbers.
Endeavour - s01e01.mkv
Name your season folders Season 01 etc pp

After changing the file and folder names, perform both ‘Analyze’ and ‘Refresh Metadata’ on the whole show.

Are the subtitles now at least selectable in the dropdowns?
If they are, have every user select his/her preferred language under
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account
(the place you show in your screenshot is only for the case when no user account is used – i.e. the server is signed out)

However, you need to make different settings:
Define the preferred language for both audio and subtitles. Set the subtitles to ‘Shown with foreign audio’.
This will activate ‘forced’ subtitles if audio language = subtitle language and full subtitles if the audio is not in the preferred language.
This automatic selection is overridden as soon as you select a subtitle or an audio track manually.
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/204985278-account-audio-subtitle-language-settings/
You cannot set it back to automatic selection, once you have made a manual selection on a particular video.

Thank you for your input, here you have print screens.

  1. http://prntscr.com/n1yvlb - no duplicate folders.
  2. http://prntscr.com/n1yxq2 - this is how it looks in the dropdown.
  3. Account language - http://prntscr.com/n1yymm
  4. I changed audio and subtitle settings - http://prntscr.com/n1yz55

Then I also changed the folder name and file per your guide, and forced a subtitle like this (analyze, metadata all done ): http://prntscr.com/n1z2aw.

It still doesn’t show any subtitle on the TV. Subtitles work if I use another Media Server, so it’s not a TV setting.

Been trying all kind of settings in the last couple of days

Does the TV have a “real” Plex app or are you just using a generic DLNA client on it?
Those subs only work in a real Plex app.

According to this: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204080173-which-smart-tv-models-are-supported/ they should, they are LG with webOS, all quite new models. But I have no idea how to check this.

EDIT: The input name in the list says Plex Media Server: Cip. webOS 4.0

Sorry, what list? Could I see a screenshot, please?

http://prntscr.com/n1zkcu - this. I think I know what you mean, you are speaking about a Plex app like Netflix has. There is no such app on any of the TVs.

Nevertheless, thanks for your help, I guess I will have to find another server  Have a nice day!

Many Smart TVs have an app store from where you can install additional apps.

I am so dumb. I noticed there is a Store but never entered it since I thought it’s related to membership purchases and I won’t use my payment details on tvs :)))) I will install Plex and get back and update the thread. Damn it, dumbster.

Thanks!

I could update the above post but this definitely needs a new post  Thank you very very very much!

Installing the Plex app solved the problem! I’d say I love you but probably that’s over the hill so it’s just thanks! For 2 days I kept installing and uninstalling Plex and various other servers and while the others lacked features, Plex was not running the subs because I did not install Plex from the LG App Store.

Have a great weekend, I know we will!
