Nope. its a bug not excuse
Tried that still crap. Should not need that anyway
Is anyone looking at timeline issue
Cmon Plex, this needs to be fixed. Server reinstall is not a viable solution.
I have similar date error issues & Iām affronted by the [Solved] notation. Rebuilding the server is NOT a solution. If my carās speedo is inaccurate I do not want to replace the engine.
Iām very irritated with this bug (OK, not in a real-world, get-a-life kind of way but this is a microcosm, with user woes related to PAYING MONEY FOR THIS SOFTWARE SERVICE). I use Plex primarily to stream video and to display our photographs on our TV so 50% of the functionality is, well, not functioning.
Iāll try & remember to keep this thread alive so it doesnāt get closed.
FIXED IT!
Based on the info in this thread, I realized that the problem occurs when we move data around and the old metadata is still sitting around. I did not have to rebuild to correct the issue!
My cause:
Over the last week I have been consolidating my photos from all my old computer hard drives so I can throw them all away! After adding about 40GB of photos, I moved all 120GB of photos to a new disc for some reasons. Something about this broke timeline.
Fix:
First thing: turn off Plex! Plex will sense changes faster than you can complete them and it will recreate issues in your metadata or cause your batch jobs to crash out constantly. (TOTALLY not speaking from first hand experience⦠/facepalm)
After opening one of my all time life-saver tools ābulk rename utilityā (you can use batch rename tool you like), I opened the EXIF properties of the files and corrected their date modified with the original date taken. (I also took the opportunity to set up a new naming system for the photos using a YMDMS.ext format, because OCD!!!)
After going through the above exercise I fired up Plex, emptied trash on the library and rescanned metadata, and after the scan completed, all good. (And even more organized than before!!!)
Hope this helps you all save some frustration!
This is really frustrating. Iāve also just noticed this bug too and rebuilding the entire plex server is not an option, nor is bulk editing the date modified dates since I often go back and re-edit and republish photos. Itās frustrating because plex has so much potential but I keep finding annoying bugs like this and some missing basic functionality as a photo server. Perhaps we should create a new thread as this clearly isnāt solved?
I am having trouble figuring out which files Plex is struggling with. I donāt know which photos to edit the EXIF properties on. I have SO many photos and videos.
I have the same issue. Not sure what to do? Looks like Google Photos will reign supreme for a long time to come
FIXED IT: IDBashās fix didnāt quite work for me, but it got me to a place where I was able to solve it using most of the same steps and it only took a few minutes. I had a folder that was stubbornly showing up in the wrong order in the timeline (correct month, wrong year).
Scanning and Metadata refresh did not help. But this did, and I think it will work well for those that just have a one to a few photo folders showing up out of time in the timeline.
- As IDBash said: Turn off Plex. (But the reason for doing this is to move the offending folder some place other than within the library location. If Plex is running, your filesystem will not want you to move files Plex is actively accessing.)
- Use whatever method you desire to move the offending folder/pictures outside of the library folder.
- Restart Plex
- Scan and refresh metadata for the library. Empty Trash for the library.
- Move the folder/pictures back into your library. Done!
The timeline is restored.
I had to move out several directories in order to fix the timeline. I am running on a Linux server and I didnāt need to stop Plex. I only needed to move the offending directories, empty the trash and then move the folders back in one at a time to let Plex rebuild the timeline.
I had to move several directories (most of them) in order to fix the issue. I even had to move many directories which previously didnāt have a problem.
God, iām getting so sick of having to look up constant issues like this. Exotic issue #20 with no real solutionā¦
My CCTV videos (photo library) keep getting messed up in the timeline, every so often my timeline will get stuck on a date as it did yesterday on the 18th. I can see the 19th captured files are present in the timeline, but all under the 18th date. Now only way to fix is to move files out and then move them back again, what a pain in the a$$!
Having to do this at least a few times a month.
I have a request related to this topic, I need to exclude certain library sub-folders from showing up in the timeline. These folders contain photos/videos with no correct timestamp set so they are showing up in timeline in bad way now.
If I can exclude them it will keep my timeline clean and relevant. As for the photos/videos from these folders I can always find them in Browse mode.
Hope Plex will consider implement it as a new feature if itās not yet possible.
Keep up the good work Plex!
ā A Plex Pass user
I have tried the recommenced work around above, but without luck, My photos and videos are still messed up in the timeline. Plex seems completely oblivious to this problem judging by the lack of response on this page and elsewhere. I have too many photos and videos to try to fix this manually in Plex. Whatās Plexās official support answer to this problem?
I have a slightly different presentation of the problem. Photos are being sorted and displayed in correct date sequence but rather than display correct date and time 1st January 1900 is displayed (but in the correct place in the sequence). I guess this is a programmerās default if Plex thinks the date is screwed up but in this case it obviously isnāt. For example, 2010-10-24 11:00:00 gets a correct display date of 24 October 2010 but 2010-10-24 11:59:59 is displayed as 1 January 1900.
There is no point in having metadata stored by the camera if Plex canāt display it correctly. I could change all the metadata tp get the dates displayed correctly but this defeats the object of having it!
Iām so disappointed at Plex. Long (years) persistent bugs + non-existent customer service made me change my mind. I was planning on getting a lifetime license after a month of Plex pass as a trial but Iām considering uninstall it and start looking for an alternative.
Same issue/bug/problem here.
Timeline display is ok, also information from Photo (shot with iPhone 11 Pro) is right, but timeline written date is Jan 1, 1900. Other photos taken with the same iPhone a day later are ok. Very strange behavior. Please correct this!
Iām having a similar issueā¦multiple entries with the same date in timeline and some pictures that have a captured date that doesnāt match the date displayed in the timeline. Really annoying when you are trying to look back at old pictures and they may or may not be in the correct timeline entry. Is there a fix for this??
There is no official fix that I know of. Some people have found workarounds by removing folders and then adding them back again so that Plex can rescan and reorder files.
