SOLVED: Your changes could not be saved - Synology and OSX / Mac Mini

SOLVED:.

On the Mac, in settings > privacy & security > full disk access. Here, add the Plex Media Server app.

Server Version#: 1.31.0.6654
Player Version#: N/A

Another “Your changes could not be saved” to add to the list.

I’m replacing my Intel NUC PMS on Win 10 (working well just slow/old) with an M1 Mac Mini PMS running Ventura 13.2

I have a Synology DS218+ running 7.1.1-42962. (It also running PMS successfully but that’s just for my audiobooks. The Mac Mini will be for me and my family to watch movies and TV shows)

On the Mac, I have the Plex_Media folder mounted and can manually play any video from it directly through VLC or Quicktime successfully.

But when I try to add either the TV Shows or Movies folder in PMS, I get the dreaded “Your changes could not be saved.” I even tried creating a test folder outside of the Plex_Media folder with no luck.

I’ve tried optimizing the database and restoring defaults with no luck.

I was looking at the logs and these two entries stand out, but I’ve tried all different ways of changing them and get the same result:

I thought maybe there was a different way to access the NAS when adding a folder in PMS but don’t see another way?–>

Thanks Sal_Khan!

Plex really needs to add something to their software explaining this. “Your changes could not be saved.” is an example of worthless and lazy programming. Time killing, sloppy mistake that costs all users needless time.

Luckily, Sal_Kahn has saved me a bunch of time and frustration by patiently figuring this out for all of the Plex staff that must have had better things to do than test their stuff.

Yeah I haven’t used OSX since it first came out, so this has been an interesting experience. From what I can gather from other apps I installed, the PMS install should initiate the Privacy Option notifications (much like on a phone) for PMS to have full disk access but - unless I missed it - I didn’t see any pop up?
